An eight-year-old girl, heartbroken and frustrated that her parents refused to adopt another dog, decided to take matters into her own hands and wrote a heartfelt letter, addressing it straight to God. Six months later, she received a surprising and thoughtful reply from someone claiming to be "a friend of God." The story was shared on Reddit on October 14, 2025, leaving the family both amazed and deeply touched by the unexpected response.

The child’s parent explained in the Reddit post that their daughter was “dog obsessed” and had been asking to rehome another rescue dog. The family already had one dog, and they said no for several reasons. Upset, the girl went to her room and returned with an envelope about an hour later. She then walked up the road to post it. Six months passed before a strange reply arrived. It was typed on low-quality paper, with a handwritten name and address. The envelope had prepaid Royal Mail postage, no return address, and no clear location. The parents were confused until their daughter admitted the letter had been written “to God.”

The girl had simply written on the envelope, “To God, Cloud 9, Heaven.” The reply began with an apology for the delay and explained that “God says he hopes you don’t mind someone else writing back to you, who knows him.” The letter then praised her kindness, saying how wonderful it was that she loved dogs so much and wanted to care for them. It shared facts, noting dogs can smell “40,000 times better than humans” and can even sense human emotions. The message reassured her that she had loving parents who would guide her well. It suggested steps she could take while waiting, stating, “Firstly, learn as much as you can about dogs. That way, when you have to take care of them, you will know exactly what to do!” and “keep praying about it, but not just about dogs, about everything. God has asked me to tell you he hears every prayer and answers them just at the right time.” The letter closed warmly with, “Kind regards, from a friend of God.”

Other Reddit users shared their thoughts on how such a reply might have been sent. u/danny202089 recalled a similar experience at a delivery office. A young girl handed them a letter addressed to her recently deceased cat. The mother explained the situation, saying the girl had included “a small letter saying that she hoped he was okay in cat heaven.” The user added they “sent a letter back to her the next day, letting her know everything was fine and to look after her remaining cat with lots of attention and cuddles.” u/MazerTanksYou suggested, “Likely Royal Mail’s Specialist Handwriting team, who deal with letters like these. They pass them to the internal postal review panel, who treat them with the respect and decorum they deserve.” u/Ok-Plan1423 wrote, “Moments like this restore my faith in humanity. Sometimes people can do wonderful things. And one of those things is seeing a child sad and trying to help them in gentle ways.”
