Amazon worker bonds with a senior cat he thought was just a local stray — until a simple microchip scan left him dumbfounded

A mystery unraveled at an Amazon warehouse after a worker found a senior cat hiding underneath a delivery truck. The staff enjoyed the furry visitor’s company, offering him food and scratches on most days. The Amazon employees bonded with the cat but remained concerned about its history. The animal had suddenly emerged on the site out of nowhere and needed to be rescued to safety. They presumed he was a stray or had probably escaped his home until a microchip scan indicated otherwise. The workers were stunned when they found out where the cat had traveled from, all the way to Long Island, New York.

The Amazon workers contacted the local animal rescuer, John Debacker, to track down the cat’s original owners and return him to safety. The cat had settled into his new home under the delivery trucks and did not leave for days until Debacker lured him out with food. Then, he checked whether the cat was microchipped and did a scan to unearth shocking details. The cat was 700 miles away from where he was, the island of Bermuda, as reported by The Dodo. Debacker instantly reached out to the Bermuda SPCA for more information on the feline and unveiled his name, Frankie.

“We’re not sure if he was a stowaway or if the person that he belonged to moved to the States recently, and he got loose,” the rescuer speculated in an interview with Bermuda Broadcasting. After taking him to the vet for routine medical checkups, Debacker learned that Frankie was 15 years old. “He’s a very sweet cat. He’s a purr machine,” he said after bonding with the cat. However, Debacker was far from satisfied with Frankie’s past life and was determined to uncover additional details about his origins. He got in touch with rescues around the world and discovered the mysterious cat’s full story.

Frankie was a world traveler. He was born in the UK and moved several homes before crossing the Atlantic Ocean to end up in the northern part of the US. He lived in the UK before moving to Bermuda and was later adopted by a family in Turks and Caicos. Eventually, the cat found a new home in South Carolina after his former owners failed to keep him. One final home switch later, he was returned to a local shelter. A New York rescue finally brought him up north in 2017, and the cat has been a New Yorker ever since. When rescuers heard of Frankie’s adventurous past, they aptly nicknamed him Mr. Worldwide.
Currently, the cat is spending his golden years in a safe shelter at Last Chance Animal Rescue until the staff finds a permanent home for the senior cat. To think of it, cats are instinctively adventurous animals and love exploring their surroundings. Although new environments can be stressful for some felines, their curiosity helps them adapt. It can officially be said that Frankie is among the most experienced of his species with all his travels across the globe. Debacker revealed a picture of Frankie and admired his world travels in a Facebook post on September 19.
