Bride walked down the aisle clutching a 17-year-old blind guest instead of a bouquet — smiles turned to tears when 7 more ‘special guests’ joined
A wedding day is incomplete without the presence of loved ones. One bride made sure it served as a reminder of the love and light a few special souls have blessed her with. Samantha Kelly planned her wedding around her guests, deciding to skip the flower bouquet for a wholesome reason. She clutched a 17-year-old guest in her arms as she walked down the aisle, but it was only a fraction of what was to come. Soon, seven "special guests" joined Kelly on her aisle, leaving the wedding guests emotional.
Kelly, 33, was all set to tie the knot with her fiancé, Ronan, 32. While 100 guests were in attendance, the couple provided special treatment to eight of them—all of their disabled dogs they had rescued over the course of their relationship. On her wedding day, Kelly tucked her 17-year-old blind dog, Papillion Louisa, instead of her bouquet and walked down the aisle at her family’s country estate home in Loughanmore Court in County Louth. Moments later, seven dogs followed her, taking turns to trot the aisle. The disabled rescue dogs, namely, Jack Russell Pal, 12; Pomeranian Jessie, 8; Springer Spaniel Jack, 12; a 12-year-old dog named Lily; Toby, the Chihuahua; Pomeranian Bony, 8, and former stray staffie cross Barney.
The bride had quite a big family, as the pet dogs mesmerized the wedding guests with their charm and adorable appearances. The sweet pups wore bow ties and tuxedo collars, looking prim and proper for the event. “Our eight dogs are our family, so like with family, we wanted them there on our wedding day,” the bride told Metro.co.uk. The dogs posed for wedding pictures with guests and made sure their favorite human’s day was perfect. Kelly revealed that she and her husband prefer dogs over kids and think of them as their children.
“Everyone thought the wedding was pretty amazing, even the priest who married us has two rescue dogs, so he thought it was pretty cool too,” Kelly, who is a business owner from Ireland, said. She previously owned three dogs before adopting more with Ronan over the years, stemming from his love for animals. “In total, now we have saved eight dogs’ lives—we tend to adopt older dogs with problems as they are harder to rehome,” she explained. All of their dogs were either abandoned or rescued from euthanasia, per the source. Besides dogs, the couple also owns five sheep and three ex-battery hens as pets. The amazing couple intends to turn their home into a dog-friendly wedding venue so animal-loving wedding couples can include their furry friends.
While dogs are an integral part of families, some people may or may not prefer to include their furry pals in weddings. This is because not every wedding guest would be comfortable with a canine companion in the room. However, every couple who loves dogs would certainly have friends and family who are okay with the pets, who are more of a blessing than a threat to others. Yet, to each their own.
