Couple leaves for a long holiday, and their dogs forget they ever existed — thanks to their grandpa

Leaving your pets behind to go on a long, relaxing vacation is hard, but not if you have someone trustworthy to look after them in your absence. Having people who love and adore our pets just like we do isn't something all owners get to experience. However, a couple, who were initially worried about leaving their beagles, Kiki and Koko (@beagleskiko on Instagram), with their father while on a two-week holiday, were stunned to see that their pups, in fact, loved every bit of the moments spent with their grandpa and didn't really miss them much.

At first, the couple thought that Kiki and Koko, or Kiko as they are collectively known, would be upset and miss them a lot. However, in reality, the dogs who shared a wonderful bond with their dearest grandpa enjoyed spending time with him and looked very unbothered by their parents' absence. From snuggling up to their favorite human to relishing their endless play time, the dogs looked thrilled, as if they had been waiting for this delightful staycation at their grandpa's house. Interestingly, in the video, you can see that the man even put up a small staircase leading to the bed, allowing the dogs to easily climb up and cuddle with him, hinting at their bedtime routine. "They love their grandad so much," the couple wrote in the caption.
Senior citizens, particularly those living alone, often form a close bond with their pets. It is widely known that having an animal companion offers numerous physical and mental health benefits. According to the American Humane Society, a close bond with pets leads to "decreased blood pressure, cholesterol levels, triglyceride levels, feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and symptoms of PTSD," thereby stabilizing our mental health.
The heartwarming video of the beagles enjoying their granddad's company in the absence of their parents went viral, receiving a lot of love from people, especially other pet owners. A user who goes by @kristinalopezwrites on Instagram commented, "This is me as the go-to person for my family and friends to watch their pups! We have so much fun, and I soak up every second. The pups love me, and I treat them like they’re mine for as long as I have them. It’s the best thing!" @luna_doodys_mom confessed, "I swear I miss my dog more than she misses me when I leave her with her gran and grandad. To be fair, it does seem to rain ham in their house, and the tummy scritches are on tap."

@brittalink wrote, "Leaving them is so hard… It’s such a gift to have someone you know will take the BEST care of them and get to see them so happy!" On the other hand, @shortandsassy16 revealed, "Haha, that’s how I feel leaving my kids for a few nights. 'They’re going to miss me.' Nope. They forget about me as soon as I leave." Another user, @kirkhastings, revealed, "My beagle used to hold a grudge for four solid days after leaving him for a week. 'Don't love your dog enough, so you just leave him behind?' He would say it in his own doggy way. 'Then you can do without me some more, human.'" @keepsakedoggotopia commented, "You were raised by a dog person, no worries. That kind of love runs in the family."
