A pet owner was devastated by the sudden death of her beloved dog until she checked the pet cam for answers. The footage captured a sweet moment that quickly stirred her emotions, leaving her more heartbroken than before. Alice Hulme from Northamptonshire, UK, was not prepared for the loss and searched for answers that could offer some kind of reassurance for the unexpected passing of Paddington, her French Bulldog, who was soon to turn 4. Her quest for finding the reason culminated after she and her husband stumbled upon the pet cam footage.

In a viral TikTok post with 12,800 views, Hulme (@alicehulme) shared a touching moment between her and Paddington. She cradled her furry friend like a baby while he offered her warm kisses by licking her face. There were no qualms about the pure and unconditional love between the two of them. Her other French bulldog, Chester, sat on the couch and watched his owner and elder sibling cuddle. It was a precious moment captured, and unfortunately, the next day, Paddington was no more. Hulme revealed that they lost him on Saturday, January 18, and the footage was picked up on Friday night.

“Nothing can prepare you for the pain of losing a dog,” she expressed in an overlay note. Had she known that only 16 hours later, her beloved dog would be gone forever, Hulme would have held him a little bit longer and hugged him tighter. “He passed away one week before his 4th birthday," the grieving owner told Newsweek. Ever since he was adopted, Paddington had suffered from health problems. He was diagnosed with Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome at age 2 and later diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), a spinal condition that puts pressure on the pain.

However, Hulme and her husband did not give up and made sure their pup received all the care and treatment to recover fully. Earlier this year, Paddington underwent successful surgery that raised hopes of his survival. The pet owners were content until he suddenly collapsed at home one day. “His breathing was slow, so we rushed him to the vets," Hulme recalled. The vets informed them that Paddington suffered from heart failure and he couldn't get any better. Within the span of 20 minutes, Paddington was euthanized as advised by the veterinarian. “We said our goodbyes, and we let him go.”

Hulme just could not understand what had caused it and dug through the doggy cam footage for clues. That is when the couple discovered the heartwarming moment between her and Paddington. She explained that his back legs were straight due to the surgery, and they would wrap around her waist like a baby’s. "I'm so happy that the camera picked up such a special moment," the owner acknowledged. While it is undoubtedly a painful loss, Hulme hopes to cherish all the good memories they shared as a family. Paddington was the first pet the couple had bought by saving up every penny to bring him after they saw him online.
