Diabetic boy’s results seemed normal at the time, but his dog sensed the danger before any devices

Raising kids, especially those diagnosed with chronic medical issues, is challenging. However, with a little help, this journey would eventually become smoother, less overwhelming and more rewarding. Similarly, Aubrie Lewis, who goes by @onederfulwells on TikTok, has found support in their service dog, who plays a crucial role in monitoring her son Wells' Type 1 diabetes. In an astonishing video, she captured how the intelligent dog warned her about her son's oncoming low blood sugar level thirty minutes early.

Wells was busy watching television when his diabetic-alert dog, Ducky, suddenly warned Lewis, sensing a possible danger lurking just ahead. Fortunately, the woman, aware of the dog's efficiency, didn't doubt him for a second and rushed to check on her son. First, Lewis checked her smartwatch, which showed a normal blood sugar level, but then she decided to double-check with a glucometer. "Okay, so I just got an alert from Ducky. Wells is 116 and steady, but we are going to poke and find out because he's saying, 'Hey, Mom! You need to check,'" Lewis said. When her son squeezed some blood on the glucometer, the result was totally positive—120mg/dL. But, seeing Ducky's unusual behavior, the woman set a 15-minute timer to check Wells' blood sugar level again.

"Ducky is still feeling concerned about his boy. He is pacing, and he keeps going up to him and sniffing him," Lewis shared. After waiting for 15 minutes, she again went to her son and checked his sugar level on the glucometer. Just like the last time, this time too, the result was just normal, reading 107 mg/dL. "So, because I know Ducky, and he has alerted like 45 minutes early in the past, I am going to set another 15-minute timer because he still seems pretty adamant," Lewis informed. A few minutes later, even her smartwatch started showing a significant drop, informing Lewis about Wells' concerning low sugar level.
Interestingly, throughout this time, Ducky refused to leave Wells and was even seen lying just near him. With each passing second, the dog was growing more impatient, constantly asking Lewis to check on her son. And this time when the woman checked Wells' sugar level on the glucometer, it was unexpectedly very low, reading 87 mg/dL. "This dog impresses me more and more every day. Ducky, you are one incredible guy!" Lewis wrote in the video caption, praising Ducky for his intelligence.

Meanwhile, reacting to the video, @tallpinelabradors commented, "He's like, 'Mom! How many times do I need to tell you about my boy?' Lol. He was stressed. Such a good boy!" @emmaramirez578 wrote, "So incredible to watch. That’s seriously amazing he can sense it so early!" Similarly, @failenaa shared, "Service dogs are so cool. Like it never would have occurred to me you can train one to alert someone ELSE when there’s something to alert about." @colmwshanahan pointed out, "That dog was not taking no for an answer; he will make sure that boy is looked after!" @ashleyjawnzon wrote, "This is such a great system because I feel like my kid would listen to a dog over me. And listening to this dog is very smart."
