Distressed pit bull approaches a stranger in the park – his cry for help saved his owner’s life

Gary Ellgene Thynes, a local resident, was enjoying a day at the park when he noticed the pit bull barking and seemingly trying to get his attention. In an interview with the Pittsburgh television station WTAE, Thynes mentioned that after briefly playing with his own dog, he decided to follow the persistent pit bull, which led him down a secluded path behind train tracks to a tent encampment. There, he found a man lying unconscious on a red couch and a woman partially visible in a tent, also unresponsive. Thynes immediately called 911, and first responders arrived shortly to take both individuals to the hospital. As Thynes later shared on Facebook, the quick thinking of the pit bull had likely saved their lives.
The story took another heartwarming turn when Thynes discovered that the dog was, in fact, the pet of the two individuals he had helped. A social worker confirmed the connection and, rather than leaving the dog at a local shelter, Thynes decided to help its homeless owners by fostering their pet dog while they remained hospitalized. "It is an honor for me to take care of this guy until his humans are well enough to reunite with a dog that loves them very much,” Thynes wrote in his post. He described the dog as "life-saving" and "amazing," acknowledging the role the animal had played in preventing a tragedy.

Thynes responded with a heartfelt message, "I’m so glad you’re both OK. I know it’s hard. I’ve been there … it can get better."
