Dogs have an uncanny ability to detect potential threats surrounding their owners. Their unbelievable sixth sense and sharp awareness allow them to sense danger long before humans can. For instance, meet Sadie Hewitt(@sadiehewittbooks on Threads), a fantasy romance author by profession, who initially worried about her dog, Luna's outlandish habit was amazed when she finally discovered the shocking reason behind it.

"Around 2021, I started waking up to my dog's snoot in my mouth. Like, IN my mouth," Hewitt began, explaining how Luna, a 3-year-old puppy at that time, started behaving weirdly, which then continued for weeks. During the same time, Hewitt had an appointment with an oncologist when she discovered that her tongue cancer had relapsed. Soon after the woman went through the surgery, her dog stopped "sticking her snoot," in Hewitt's mouth. However, recently, about 6 weeks ago, Luna again started doing the same, and it turned out that the author's cancer had relapsed

"The third time it happened was a couple of months later. I made an appointment with my oncologist and said, 'You aren't going to believe this...but I think my dog can smell another relapse,'" Hewitt revealed in her follow-up post. Although she was not too sure if her doctor believed her, he did ask her to make an emergency appointment the next day. "Third relapse. It happened one more time later that same year. Luna hasn't been interested since. I whole-heartedly believe she could smell my cancer, or at least the changes in my body," the woman shared

Besides, replying in the comments section, Hewiit revealed that she has had 7 cancer bouts in 15 years, the first being in 2009. "I have about 2/3 of my tongue and no lymph nodes on the left side of my neck. Still do speech therapy exercises and lymphatic drainage or I get all clogged up." Interestingly, Hewitt shared an adorable picture of her dog, referring to her as "Dogtor Luna." Moreover, she shared Luna was found with her mother and was a mixed breed." Hewitt wrote, "We know she's part Border Collie because she was found with her mom. DNA test said she's also part Beagle and Australian Shepherd."

Meanwhile, reacting to the story, @d commented, "My mastiff kept smelling my lab’s belly very aggressively and I told my husband he was smelling cancer. And he was. Walter had to be put down within a month or so.I’m glad you have your doggie." @kikikiana wrote, "My cat would not leave my partners beard alone, she would bite him on the chin. He had head and neck cancer we later found out. She was 13 at the time and she passed 2 months after he did. I miss them both a lot! What a star your Luna is."
