Dog ecstatic when owner ‘proposed’ to him — then gave the ultimate side-eye when he popped question for real

Have you caught your dog giving you a judgemental side-eye when you give someone else attention? Well, it's no secret that pets, just like humans, can be surprisingly jealous! Whether it's sneaking between you and your partner on your romantic dates or giving you the cold shoulder when you pet another dog, these furballs know how to make their feelings known. Likewise, just before popping the question to his lady love, a man rehearsed with his Golden Retriever, Bubbles (@mygoldenbubbles on Instagram), who mistakenly believed that the proposal was meant for him. 

In the wholesome Instagram reel, the man was captured kneeling before Bubbles and opening the ring box. And the moment it happened, the Golden Retriever could no longer contain his excitement and jumped over the man, giving him a joyful hug. Meanwhile, the man equally responded by lovingly caressing his overjoyed four-legged companion. Simultaneously, the overlay text read, "My dog when he thought I was proposing to him..." The scene then shifted to the actual proposal, where the owner's partner replaced Bubbles while he sat there, realizing that he was tricked. The adorable canine looked a little disappointed when he learned that the oh-so-romantic marriage proposal was not for him. "...Vs. when he realized I'm proposing to his mom!" read the overlay text.

Reflecting more about Bubbles' priceless reaction, the man's fiancée shared, "The iconic duo & really, the true love story here. I have accepted that I’ll forever be the spare human even though we’re engaged." On the other hand, reacting to the video, @ralph commented, "Bubbles wants to know where the heck is his ring and why you give away the first one." @gracegcastleman, who interpreted Bubbles' feelings, wrote, "All that practice for nothing! Hopefully, you ordered another ring." @penny shared, "LOL! Bubbles deserve a proposal too he says."

Additionally, the man's fiancée had posted another endearing video of him rehearsing his proposal with their dog, Bubbles. Every time he knelt on one knee, the dog would happily trott through the gap between his knee and the ground—something the man taught him, knowing that his partner always wanted Bubbles to be part of the precious moment. Finally, when the moment arrived, like a faithful and obedient student, the Golden Retriever did exactly what he was supposed to, making the day even more meaningful. "I absolutely loved seeing the BTS of dog dad and bubs planning this. Dog dad wanted me to put a disclaimer that this is a dog dad production," she wrote in the caption.
