Dog owner worried suspicious man was plotting to steal her ‘beautiful’ service Poodle — so she thought of a brilliant plan that would stop any thief

The surging cases of dog theft are keeping every pet owner on edge. A TikTok creator and dog owner was left concerned following an odd encounter with a suspicious man popping up every day during her walks. In a post shared by @raventhemuttsandaspoo, the woman revealed the desperate measures she had taken to protect her service Poodle from being stolen.

The dog owner said that every time she and her dogs went out for a walk, they were approached by a “gentleman” who was curious about her black Poodle, Phoebe. “Anytime we are walking or anytime he walks by my house and Phoebe is outside, he comments on how beautiful she is,” the owner disclosed. She noted in an overlay that her neighborhood was not the “best.” After admiring the pup’s beauty, the man annoyed the owner with nosy questions on whether her dog was “fixed.” Following repeated encounters, the creator feared he might be plotting to steal her Poodle and felt “uncomfortable” by his presence.

“Unfortunately, I had to do this,” she said, showing a picture of her black Poodle drenched in a dash of purple around her neck. The owner had stained her service dog’s pristine black coat with a pet-safe dye. She expressed regret in doing so, as it ruins the pet’s original appearance and also takes a lot of work to remove it. “I’m not happy with this. I don’t like coloring my dogs.” Now, Phoebe’s chest and paws were conspicuously dyed to catch anyone’s notice, a possible deterrent for thieves. When she tried to wash it off, the dye faded into a lighter shade of pink and baby blue. “So, now we have trans bright colors, yay!” she joked.

Earlier, the owner revealed in an overlay note that her other dog, Luna, accompanies them as a distraction to the Poodle. She is trained to a “speak command” that the owner may use when someone gets too close to them. The post amassed 590,000 views and 140,000 likes. In the comments, the owner further clarified, “Guys, I have told him multiple times that she is fixed, and that she is a mutt,” she wrote. However, a clueless viewer (@chronicallyannoyed) asked, “So the dye makes her very recognizable?” She responded, “Yes, so if stolen, she is easily recognized. Makes them less likely to be taken for that reason.”

Another user (@the_servicepyrenees_team) supported, “This is why I dye my girl. I’ve had someone actually attempt to steal my girl in a store.” “I know it might not be the nicest thing for you, but it will keep her safer [sic] and that is what’s important,” penned @xlily.05x. Most of the viewers were in agreement with the owner’s decision to dye her dog, considering the dog’s safety, with minor concerns about the dye’s effects on the pup.
