Dog owners asked woman how she got ‘banned’ bully breeds into an apartment — but her controversial response left everyone furious

A dog owner is being frowned upon by the internet after she revealed how to get large dogs that are banned into residential apartments. On a TikTok page (@bentleythepibble) dedicated to her pet, Bentley, a big black Pit Bull mix, the owner got candid about the little trick she pulled to fool the authorities about her dog ownership. When a potential pet owner asked about her secret, the woman did not hold back, and much to her surprise, many people were enraged by her act.

Someone wanted to adopt a Pit Bull by the next year, but could not find a suitable apartment that had options for larger dogs. They noticed the TikTok creator had a place in a high-rise complex and requested details. Sharing brief snippets of her Pit Bull chilling in her beautiful apartment, the dog owner confirmed that it was “near impossible” to find a place that welcomed her pet. “When I was looking at apartments in Arlington, almost every building had breed and size restrictions. All of them restricted Pit Bulls,” she said. The dog owner hinted that there was no straight way to get her dog into these apartment complexes. So, she resorted to desperate measures.

“The only way to get around this is to get an emotional support animal certificate,” the dog owner recommended. While the document could be signed and approved by a licensed mental health specialist, the creator said an easier way would be to pull up a draft from Google and sign it as their own. “By law, apartment buildings can’t charge you monthly or one-time fees for pets, and they can’t impose breed restrictions,” she noted in the viral video with 270,000 views. However, the pet owner may have to explain and justify the reason for their emotional support animal.

In the caption, the dog owner emphasized that ESAs are the “only way” to bring bully breeds, typically marked as aggressive dogs, into a residential complex. She suggested checking the websites that allow online requests for therapists for additional information. While the dog owner’s suggestion was well-intentioned, the internet felt otherwise. “Please only do ESA if you have a mental illness or similar. The more people that abuse this makes it [sic] harder to get for those that need one,” wrote @makiccino and @paigee222 opined, “This is so dangerous to recommend to people. My 10-month-old puppy was attacked and bitten by an ‘ESA’. Please don’t do this.” Similarly, a fellow pet owner (@woweefanclub) shared, “My dog has been attacked twice by fake ESA dogs. Please do not do this if your dog is aggressive.”

A therapist will review your online request from one of those sites and deem whether or not it’s necessary. According to a report by Dogster, Pit Bulls are unfairly labeled as aggressive and have a bad reputation that humans like to maintain. They are loyal and gentle family dogs and not aggressive in nature. While there have been several reported accidents and dog attacks related to bully breeds, the owners are really at fault for encouraging negative behaviors. “There aren’t bad dogs, only bad owners,” says the report. Poor training and negative habits are the root causes of aggressive dogs.
