Expecting parents asked their Golden Retriever to guess their baby’s gender — and he knew what was in the envelope all along

Pets often hold a special place in our hearts, and for one couple, their dog has become a cherished part of every big moment in their lives. In a heartwarming moment, a Golden Retriever named Huckleberry became the star of a viral TikTok video. Shared by Michael and Abbey, who go by @michaelandabbey, the clip features Huckleberry being asked to predict the gender of his owners’ baby. What followed next left viewers everywhere smiling, especially since the pup's choice turned out to be spot-on.

As reported by Newsweek, the adorable clip, posted in May 2025, shows Abbey Less, who is pregnant, asking Huckleberry whether their baby would be a boy or a girl. The then soon-to-be mother kneels in front of her 4-year-old pet dog and presents him with two options: “Is it a boy or a girl? A baby brother, baby sister?” The couple had already jokingly asked their dog several times before, but this time, Huckleberry took his role seriously. After some careful consideration, he chose "baby sister." Abbey revealed in the caption of the viral post that they even did “best two out of three to be safe,” but Huckleberry’s decision was clear.

Less, reflecting on her bond with the dog, told the outlet, “We've always dreamed of having a Golden Retriever, and since the moment we brought him home, he's been part of everything we do, from travel to daily routines. He's affectionate, expressive, and hilariously intuitive.” She added that he’s not just a pet for them, "He's our best friend, sidekick, and now, soon-to-be big brother." The couple wanted to include Huckleberry in their gender reveal because of how integral he is to their lives. “Instead of throwing a big gender-reveal party, we wanted a quiet, personal moment and, naturally, Huckleberry had to be part of it," Abbey explained.

The reveal didn’t stop there. The next day, the couple shared another video in which they opened the scan envelope on camera to confirm that Huckleberry’s prediction was right; they were indeed having a baby girl. "It's a girl, Oh my gosh, Hucky, you were right," Less exclaimed in the video as the happy couple hugged their adorable pet. "I am [sic] honestly shocked." The video quickly gained traction online, with over 10.6 million views and more than 1.4 million likes. "We added a dramatic slow zoom for comedic effect, and somehow it just struck a chord with viewers," Less said. 

Numerous internet users left their warm reactions in the comment section. @saoirsesoleil_ joked, "'I want to be an only child' was not a selection." @alyssaexplainsitall wrote, "Pup said, 'You all sure you want to find out this way? I don’t get to eat a pup cake or something?' Lol." @mycoolconstruction commented in reference to when Huckleberry took his time before selecting, "He was communicating with the angels, had to buffer for the answer." TikTok user @logannnnnn141 also made an amusing remark, "The side eye like 'these people know I can’t speak English, right?'"
