The world is mourning the sudden passing of legendary actress and revered artist Diane Keaton. While the late star was a great personality, she was also a loving pet owner who made sure her beloved Golden Retriever, Reggie, was covered for life in her absence. Reports have surfaced about the wealth Keaton had earned and accumulated over her long career in the film industry. There were concerns about the fate of her pet following her demise, but she included Reggie in her final will with a share that feels too good to be true.

An insider disclosed that Keaton reportedly left a $5 million share of her wealth to Reggie, while the rest of her $100 million estate would be divided between her two children, as reported by AOL. Dexter, 29, and Duke, 25, were included in their mother’s will alongside their canine sibling. It’s no surprise that the Golden Retriever is now a millionaire, as a friend of the late actor noted how important Reggie was in her life. “Reggie was her world. Diane used to joke that her great loves were her children, Al Pacino, architecture, and that dog,” the friend told Rob Schuter’s Substack.

The primary motive for leaving such a massive sum for her pet dog was to ensure he lived with the “same dignity and humor she did.” Another insider added, "It’s the most Diane thing ever—eccentric, kind, and deeply loving.” Some of the money will also be donated to animal charities. The "Annie Hall" actor’s love for animals shone through her social media posts, as Reggie was a constant feature on her Instagram page (@diane_keaton). More so, the latest post was an ode to her dog and pets worldwide on National Pet Day, shared in collaboration with Hudson Grace, a furniture brand. A carousel of photos showed Keaton spending a joyful time with her golden pup and a miniature dog toy.

However, the "Book Club" actor did not decide to get a puppy until someone gave it to her. In an interview with AARP, she recalled, "A friend of mine gave her to me. I didn’t even ask for her. He came to me and said, ‘I think you need this dog.’ I was like, ‘Okay, I guess?’” Over time, she grew increasingly fond of her dog, and they became inseparable. “Of course, now I just love her. Dogs are irresistible. They’re just idiots. Reggie is a big jerk, and she’s hilarious.” Keaton’s mindfulness for the well-being of her pet dog, even after her passing, is remarkable and worth appreciating. The iconic actor and businesswoman had an eyewear line, recorded her debut Christmas song, and even directed several films like "Wildflower," "Unsung Heroes," and "Hanging Up."

Keaton passed away in her home in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 11, 2025. She was 79. The cause of death has not been revealed. A family friend had later admitted that her health had declined very “suddenly.” She was surrounded by close family and friends at the time of her passing.
