Most people often feel scared to trust again, especially after a traumatic experience. And just like humans, animals also go through the same emotions. However, with time and a nurturing environment, they might slowly rebuild trust and gradually form beautiful connections. For instance, meet Nia, an adorable dog who was abandoned by her owner as an 8-week-old puppy. Although she was temporarily adopted by a neighbor, Nia needed a more stable home. This was when PAWS Atlanta came into the picture and took her with them. To understand how Nia would behave around humans, she was shifted to a new foster family where the dog unexpectedly found comfort in being around them. The incredible video was shared on Hans & Friends' (@hansandfriends) TikTok page.

The emotional video captured Nia peacefully sleeping on the couch while an elderly lady sat beside her, gently caressing her head. While the heartwarming moment played on the screen, the on-screen text read, "When your foster dog, who has never had a home, fears everything and doesn't know how to be a dog, experiences Nana for the first time." Nia looked so comfortable around the elderly woman that it did not seem like their first meeting. Interestingly, Nia lived with her new foster family for about a year which was actually a staff member's house. Talking to Newsweek, Brenna Lakeson, an official from the shelter home said, "She's become even more outgoing in her foster home, which makes us hopeful that she'll be able to more easily transition into an adoptive home one day. She loves running around in the yard with her foster dog siblings, playing with toys and snuggling on the couch. She loves other dogs, and being around them boosts her confidence."

Meanwhile, reacting to the TikTok video, several pet parents resonated with Nia and Nana's bond and shared their personal experiences in the comments. For instance, @ohsokt commented, "That’s Nana’s baby now and she is going to make sure the little rascal is spoiled rotten, as Nanas do." Similarly, @gaovrdrv79 commented, "They know who to gravitate to. My mom and granny had that serene calm about them that drew the kids and fur kids to want to be in their space. It's a gift." @snowylilacs, another dog owner commented, "Our husky gets just as excited as our kids do going to my mom's house. she knows their street, the moment we turn down, she starts her happy whines."

I use one to take her on LONG walks! I have 10 miles on a full charge. She loves our slow walks." @purplebean13 commented, "My pit bull was dumped at a shelter as a newborn with a hernia, got her the first day she was allowed to be adopted. The sleep she got when she realized she was safe made me tear up." @mrsbb111 wrote, "Animals are the same way with my Nanny. She was the only one my bearded dragon would allow to cuddle her."
