Her dog that hated cuddles suddenly became clingy and refused to leave her side — so she took a pregnancy test that changed her life

A woman was surprised when her dog suddenly became overly affectionate and clingy, leaving her puzzled about the change. In a Reddit post shared by the dog owner (u/BigPlatform4195), she opened up about the series of events with her pet that only made sense once she took a pregnancy test. She encouraged people to share similar experiences with their pets in the thread.

Recounting the sweet story, the woman described her pet dog’s personality, saying she never really liked snuggling and was not “super affectionate” towards them. “She generally prefers to be in her own bed, which is totally fine,” the dog owner added. However, her pet’s behavior has been different lately. “For the past week or so she’s been getting on the couch with me and laying her head on my stomach for long periods of time,” she noted. The pup has even abandoned her own bed to snuggle up with her dog mom at night, which left the family clueless. “I’ve woken up a couple of nights with her snuggled up to me and her head on my stomach.”

Unsure of her dog's strange behavior, the woman enjoyed the moments before her dog resumed her regular habits. Eventually, the owner took a pregnancy test and the mystery was solved. The owner was pregnant, and her pet dog had known all this while. “It’s crazy to me how early she picked up on it!” At the time of sharing the post, the owner was four weeks pregnant, still early in the phase. Yet, her furry companion was able to detect the change in her body way before she realized it. To top that, the formerly reclusive pup was suddenly clinging to her mom at all times.

The post received over a hundred upvotes and dozens of comments from fellow pet owners. u/EngineeringQueen recounted, “My male dog started treating me differently right away. He usually likes to keep casually close to me in the house, but he started sticking by me out in the yard, too. He will not leave my side.” u/namean_jellybean also echoed similar sentiments. “Yep, both my dogs knew this time, which prompted me to take a test.” “My dog was first to know, too! She is very in tune with me and had a false pregnancy and was even expressing milk! We were so confused until we got our confirmation that I was pregnant! She knew 1–2 weeks before we did!” chimed u/Affectionate-Net2277.
According to Pedigree, dogs can usually sense pregnancy in humans due to several factors, ranging from a change in scent, body language, and behavior in their humans. Dogs can detect the slightest change in odor with the help of their olfactory senses. They can differentiate between 30,000 and 100,000 aromas. Since pregnancy is greatly influenced by hormones and chemical changes in the body, dogs can likely smell it before they see it.
