A loyal dog has raised pet standards with her touching gesture for her sick owner. Soon after a patient was rushed into a hospital, the staff noticed a white dog waiting outside the gates. They learned that the dog was there for her sick owner, who was under treatment and refused to budge until he returned home. Initially, the owner’s family and the hospital staff thought it was best to take her back home for safety, but Boncuk, the determined dog, waited endlessly for six days.

Dog owner Cemal Senturk has been living with his dog in northeastern Turkey for nine years until a medical emergency forced them to separate for a few days. However, Boncuk was not having it and followed him all the way to the Medical Park Hospital in Trabzon, where the owner was admitted in January 2021, as reported by CNN. She had managed to escape from the house and track down the facility to patiently wait for him outside for six days straight. The hospital staff informed Senturk about his dog’s whereabouts before his family arrived to take Boncuk back home.

Surprisingly, the dog escaped again and returned to her spot near the hospital gates. The hospital’s international patient center director, Murat Ercan, talked to the outlet about Boncuk’s heartwarming gesture. “His dog ‘Boncuk’ has followed him to the hospital gate and refused to leave for six days until her owner was discharged.” He revealed that the dog had escaped the house multiple times to return to the hospital each day and wait for her owner. The family failed to grasp how the smart pup was escaping every time. “Cemal Senturk has been with Boncuk for nine years, and he also stated that he missed her a lot during his stay at the hospital,” Ercan added.

Senturk even tried to comfort his beloved dog by communicating with her through the window. But even he could not send his furry friend home. Everyone decided it was best to let her have her way. Finally, the day came, and the owner was discharged from the hospital. Boncuk’s stakeout lasted six days before she happily went home with her favorite human. The loyal dog’s affection captured hearts in the facility as the staff cared for and fed her throughout her stay outside the hospital. “Boncuk has behaved really sweetly [sic] during the six days and has managed to capture the love and affection of the whole staff,” Ercan shared.

According to Britannica, dogs developed their sense of loyalty to humans through their evolutionary history, the domestication process, and the strong bonds shared with humans. The loyalty stems from their innate pack behavior passed down from their ancestral wolves. Moreover, domestication has a significant impact, as humans have selectively bred dogs for desirable traits, including loyalty and companionship. The highly social nature of dogs is also a key factor in creating unconditional bonds with their owners.
