Although most people with special needs go through endless challenges in life, having a service dog by their side might make their journey a bit easier and relaxing. Similarly, Grace Mariani's life changed forever when she met her loyal service dog, Justin, through Canine Companions for Independence. The dog became such an important part of Mariani's life that throughout her time at the prestigious Seton Hall University (@setonhall), Justin followed her to every class, providing support in every way possible.

To honor the service dog's dedication, the university decided to present him with a special degree for "attending all of Grace’s classes" at the graduation ceremony. The beautiful video of the dog receiving his honorary degree was shared by the university on their official Twitter page. Looking dapper in his special class of 2023's bandana, Justin followed Mariani while she went to receive her diploma degree. Notably, the former president of Seton Hall University presented the remarkable duo with their respective degrees. As the heart-touching moment unfolded on the screen, the caption read, "Seton Hall President Joseph E. Nyre, Ph.D. presents Justin, the service dog for Grace Mariani, of Mahwah, NJ, with a diploma for attending all of Grace’s classes at Seton Hall." The wholesome video received an overwhelming response on social media with several people even praising the university for honoring the service dog for his unwavering dedication.

For instance, reacting to the video, @mariamccorkle12 commented, "This was the best video ever of that beautiful dog with her owner. Congratulations to the student and the beautiful pup!" Similarly, @carolinafavero3 commented, "Congratulations Grace and Justin! Thank you for sharing this beautiful initiative!" @adamcheng811 commented, "Very good for the helper who never knows his importance and that he is very valuable." @wiumlacock commented, "What a beautiful gesture from this institution. Much respect to all." @profdavek who personally knew Justin and Mariani commented, "Was great to have been in same training class at Canine Companions as Grace and Justin! What a wonderful moment!" On the other hand, @wwillegers commented, "Thank you Mr President for your gratitude towards Furry Doggo, he deserves it."

It is pertinent to mention that Mariani graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree. Talking to CNN, the young woman shared that she aspires to be a teacher in the elementary and special education departments. Besides, a high-rank official at the Canine Companion for Independence, Jeanine Konopelski, said, "When Grace was matched with Canine Companions service dog Justin, she said her dream was to go away to college and become a teacher,” revealing more about Mariani's future dreams.

Interestingly, Konopelski shared insights about Justin's training and said that the canine had to go through lengthy training sessions to assist Mariani. "With Justin by her side, she has the best chance for a successful, independent life,” he added. Although Justin became an internet sensation after the graduation ceremony, it was not the first time, a service dog was awarded a degree. Back in 2018, another service dog named Griffen also received his Master's diploma from Clarkson University along with his owner, Brittany Hawley.
