Most people don't value life and constantly complain about things they don't have. As we go about chasing materialistic gains, we constantly forget to nurture the beautiful relationships that make the journey worth living. While the love remains the same, gratitude unintentionally slips out the window, making us really ungrateful and unappreciative. Similarly, Justin Jones, who goes by @justin_and_jack on Instagram, realized this sheer reality about gratitude redefining our lives during a life-threatening medical emergency.

In the middle of a heart attack, when Jones looked at the monitor, he was shocked to see his blood pressure shoot up to 224/110. Perhaps sensing that his end was near, he asked the nurse to pass his phone because he wanted to text someone to take care of the cats. Even in such a vulnerable situation, Jones couldn't stop thinking about his pets. While he was lost in his thoughts, the nurses placed the shock paddles on his chest to revive him back to life. "So I put my phone down, and I closed my eyes, and I started thinking about Jack, and how grateful I was to have experienced his love, and this crazy adventure he had taken me on," Jones shared. He began thinking about how his love for cats brought a purpose to his life, changing it forever, as he whispered, "Thank you!"

It may sound unreal, but the precious moment spent just being thankful to the universe helped Jones get better, as his blood pressure fell and he heard the nurse say, "Whatever you’re doing, keep doing it." When Jones informed the nurse about what he was doing, the nurse looked clearly emotional, as she wheeled him into the surgery. "Today it’s April 9th, and it’s my 48th birthday, and I continue to this day, being so very grateful, for the love of a little orange cat, named Jack," Jones wrote in the caption. Needless to say, Jones thinking about his cat, Jack, in one of the most perilous situations proves how much he loved and adored him. Interestingly, just like him, according to the Pew Research Center, around 98% of owners in America consider their pets their family, and 51% of them say their animal companions are as much a part of their lives as any other human companion.

Jones talked about his near-death experience and how his cat, Jack, unknowingly helped him recover faster through a wholesome Instagram post. Meanwhile, reacting to his story, @thatsaustinsgirl commented, "Oh my goodness, I’m in tears. Our animals are such a gift from God. It’s a love truly unlike any other. It is definitely worth sticking around for." Likewise, another user who goes by @lilygilbert_model on Instagram shared, "The orange ones have little brain cells but a hell of a lot of love. Mine also saved me, but he's too silly to know."

@gato_archer revealed, "A few months ago, I thought about taking my life. I almost did, but when I was about to do it, my cats jumped on me, and one of them, the least affectionate one, started licking my face and stopped me from doing it." On the other hand, @laurabuilds said, "Animals are SO AMAZING for your soul. Just the thought of my cats, dogs, and horse has taken me from the depths of despair to being able to function again."
