Man saw his cats surrounding the kitchen table while he poured coffee — what he found beneath proved they’d just saved his life again
Pets have a way of sensing danger long before we do, and sometimes their instincts can be life-saving. Cats, often seen as calm observers, can surprise their owners with quick reactions when something feels off. On October 24, 2024, a Reddit user u/New-Entertainer-237 shared how his three cats saved him from a terrifying encounter in his kitchen. The post, titled “My cats saved me again!” showed how an ordinary morning turned into a moment of real danger.
The man shared two photos in his post, one showing his cats gathered around the kitchen counter, staring intently underneath, and the next revealing the shocking reason why. Hiding under the table was a deadly surprise, a cobra, coiled silently and ready to strike. He wrote, “This is the second time it [sic] happened to me. A cobra got into my house and hid [sic] under a big coffee table, too low to see anything underneath.”
“I went to the kitchen to get some coffee. Then I noticed all my cats gathered around the table. I looked down and was [sic] surprised to see a spitting cobra,” he shared in the post. He also explained that in his country, Malaysia, firefighters are trained to handle dangerous animals. All of his cats were safe, and he described them as smart and heroic for not attacking the snake. Firefighters eventually removed the cobra safely about 30 minutes later. His quick-thinking cats kept a close watch without provoking the dangerous reptile until help arrived.
The comments on his post were filled with praise and relief. u/Orkekum called his pets “fantastic bodyguards.” Another user, u/Few-Explanation-4699, wrote, “Cats are great at letting us know when things are not right. Good to see you and your cats are safe. Give them a big cuddle from me and let them know how good they are.” Many users also shared their own stories of alert pets, proving that sometimes our furry companions are the best protectors we could ever have.
u/nintendude02 recounted, "My grandfather used to have a cat that would literally find snakes, kill them, and bring them back to show it off. Some were cobras, some were kraits. Mind you, this was a smooth-brained orange cat." While u/QuestionMarkKitten wrote, "Yeah, it is often the case that just having a patrol of your cat is enough to deter and ward off any would-be attackers. Our previous cat was sweet and kind, like a baby deer, and would never harm a fly, a bird, or any type of creature. However, as long as we had him, we never had any vermin at all. Just because he was a cat and around. After he passed away, we were infested with mice/rats and tried all sorts of traps and devices to scare them off, including those audio transmitters and infrared gadgets. None of them worked at all. In the end, we all agreed... we need a cat!"
