What started as an ordinary walk became a lasting memory for u/Not-original, who shared on Reddit how one stranger’s quick decision for an animal left a deep impression. While passing by a sewer grate, they noticed a man standing still, staring down. Curious, they asked what he was doing. "He said he thought he heard a deer down there. The next thing I know, he pulled up the grate and jumped down," the user wrote. The man was part of a nearby landscaping crew, but the user never caught his name or the name of the colleague who helped him. "I only started filming after he started. It gave me a morale boost and I hope it does for you too," they explained.

The user praised the man in the comments, "This guy was awesome. No hesitation at all once he saw that it was a baby deer. He rescued it, gave it some love, and then set it free.

Then just went back to work like it was nothing." That rescue is now confirmed to have taken place in Park Hills, Kentucky. Julie Alig, the city clerk and treasurer, told The Enquirer that sewer workers were in the area that day and successfully rescued a baby deer from a storm drain. The animal was carefully lifted out and released, visibly shaken but unharmed. A second deer rescue happened the same day in nearby Fort Wright, just a short drive from Park Hills.

Fire Chief Steve Schewe and his team responded to a 911 call reporting a baby deer stuck in a sewer on Barbara Circle. The fire crew removed the grate and freed the fawn, who was then released to its mother waiting in the woods. Dana Kemp Ackley, a local resident who witnessed the Fort Wright rescue, shared the experience on Facebook. "So grateful the City of Fort Wright police and fire came out to rescue the baby deer. Shout out to Detective Mike, who is a fellow animal lover. My morning walk took an eventful turn," she wrote, posting a clip from the scene. Both rescues came during what wildlife officials describe as "peak fawning season."

According to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, it is common during this period for does to leave their young hidden while they forage. In most cases, fawns should not be touched unless they are clearly injured or trapped. The video gained a lot of attention, and viewers were touched by this random act of kindness. u/GlitteryDeew wrote, "The world needs more people like him, quiet heroes who act out of compassion without expecting anything in return."

u/gitsgrl commented, "Nothing more attractive than a man that looks out for the vulnerable." u/WalnutWhipWilly commented, "That poor thing must have been scared to death down there. Well done that man, I’d buy you a beer if I could, sir." u/jellyn7 said, "I was going to ask what a deer sounds like, but then I watched the video with sound on. I think I would've thought it was a cat." u/ironskillet2 shared, "Hope the mom is nearby or it gets some way to feed. Otherwise, it's gonna starve to death."
