Man was jolted awake when his cat knocked over a laptop in the middle of the night — minutes later, he realized the pet had saved his family’s lives
A cat's quick thinking ended up saving an entire family in Talisay City, Cebu, Philippines. On November 4, 2025, David Paul Aguspina was fast asleep when, in the early hours of the morning, his 4-year-old cat, Neko, knocked over a laptop. The sound jolted him awake, and little did he know, this simple act would soon reveal a much more urgent danger.
As reported by Must Share News, the heavy rains and winds continued to batter the city between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m., and Aguspina was still unaware of the rising floodwaters outside. Neko, however, had noticed something alarming. The cat had been sitting on the couch, staring out of the window, possibly sensing the floodwaters creeping closer. “I don’t know why, but Neko just kept looking outside—maybe animal instinct or something,” Aguspina said.
He suspects the cat saw the waters rising and rushed to alert him. In the process, Neko knocked over the laptop, waking Aguspina from his deep sleep. “If you know me personally, I’m hard to wake up,” Aguspina shared with MyTV Cebu. “That morning, the sound of the laptop falling woke me up and really saved my life.” When he picked it up, he realized the floor was wet, and the water was beginning to rush inside their home.
Looking outside, Aguspina saw the floodwaters rapidly rising, and his fears were confirmed. He hurried upstairs, urging his family to grab what they could and prepare to leave. Within minutes, the floodwaters rose to ankle depth and kept increasing quickly. The family made the decision to evacuate to a nearby neighbor’s three-story house, taking essential items and their three pets, including Neko. Thanks to the cat’s timely warning, they were able to escape before the situation worsened.
The floods caused widespread damage in Cebu, claiming 150 lives, but Aguspina’s family was fortunate to get out unharmed. “I thank God for Neko, because he really saved my life. Who knows? Without him, I wouldn’t be alive to tell this story, and my family might have lost more because of the flood,” expressed Aguspina. The family’s gratitude for their loyal pet was clear, as they reflected on how Neko’s actions spared them from a much worse fate.
Pet felines have always come to the rescue of their owners when they least expect it. In another remarkable story, a family in Clairmont, Alberta, experienced an unusual alarm from their cat, which ended up saving their lives. One night, around 3:30 a.m., a fire broke out under their mobile home. The family cat bit the mother on the arm, waking her up in time to realize something was wrong. The family quickly escaped before the fire spread. Firefighters contained the blaze and rescued another cat, preventing further damage. The family was unharmed, and their cat’s quick actions turned what could have been a tragedy into a story of survival.
