Many tried to adopt her, leaving her sick soulmate behind. One woman vowed to not break their 14-year bond

Let's be real; when most people walk into a dog shelter, it's usually the young, energetic, and tail-wagging puppies that steal the spotlight. While the little puppies easily find their forever happy homes, the senior ones are left behind in complete solitude. The Reason? Well, they're old, apparently not so "cute," and, of course, have health issues. Jenna, who goes by @jennafifi on Instagram, however, chose a different path; instead of a youthful puppy, she decided to adopt a bonded pair of two elderly dogs, and that definitely changed their lives forever.

According to Jenna, Jack and Maisie were a bonded pair of 14-year-old rescue dogs who were literally inseparable. The duo spent around 4 months at an animal shelter and had only one inquiry before Jenna, who was interested in adopting them as a pair. Other than that, most people showed interest in adopting just Maisie, a dachshund. "Jack was already losing his hearing and eyesight, and Maisie was his everything, so it still baffles me that there were inquiries asking to split them up. Plus, Jack was utterly gorgeous and the sweetest boy," she shared. Fortunately, this was when the woman stepped up and adopted the bonded pair, knowing that separating them wasn't a good idea. "I feel incredibly lucky to have been able to see how much they loved each other. Bonded dogs are love in its purest, most beautiful form, especially when they’re older," she said, speaking about the beautiful bond between Jack and Maisie.
Moving on, Jenna shared a few things that she absolutely loves about the rescue dogs' bond. "The way they’d always curl up together, often their heads resting on each other," she said, revealing how, despite having two different beds, Jack and Maisie still sleep snuggling to each other. Further, Jenna shared that ever since Jack lost his hearing ability, Maisie became his loyal guide and helped him at every step in life. "Their patience with each other, even when one of them clambered over the other one to cuddle up. They always allowed space for each other," she added. Jenna also shared how a protective Maisie always walks in front of Jack, as if trying to protect him from any possible danger. Apart from each other, Jack and Maisie also grew fond of Jenna and loved spending their evenings with her on the couch.

Jack and Maisie were lucky to have found Jenna, but according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), the adoption rate of elderly dogs is 25% lower than the adoption rate for younger dogs. Now, this shows how most people neglect senior dogs and leave them to spend their twilight years in solitude. Meanwhile, when Jenna shared her beautiful adoption story online, she received an outpouring of love on social media. Echoing the sentiments, an individual who goes by @cutiebanjo on Instagram wrote, "Such a beautiful love story! So happy you made a wonderful home for those two angels. They were two of the most adorable doggies! I’m sure you miss them terribly."

Another user, @tessie2s, commented, "These two darlings honestly fill my heart with such joy. Thank goodness you took them home. They looked so happy!" On the other hand, @jehudgins1 wrote, "Your words. Incredibly powerful. What a special and incredible love those two shared. So glad you got to share it with them. So happy they were kept together. I can’t imagine tearing them apart, even thinking of tearing them apart. But they weren’t; they stayed together and were loved together. Special and beautiful."
