Neighbor's hyperactive dog senses canine friend’s final moments — sits quietly with him before final goodbye

Dogs have an uncanny ability to sense danger before anyone else, particularly when their canine friends are at risk. With their sharp instincts, they often pick up on threats early, alerting others before trouble strikes. Interestingly, this sensitivity isn't limited to external dangers—Andrea Cassiol (@moxiegurll on TikTok) noticed a significant change in her neighbor's dog, Zina, after her pup, Biscuit, was diagnosed with cancer.

Zina, an otherwise hyperactive dog, sensed something was wrong as Biscuit’s health declined. When Cassiol made the difficult decision to put Biscuit down to prevent further suffering, she captured a precious, overwhelming moment between the two. In the heart-wrenching video, Zina was captured sitting across the fence, facing Biscuit, as he lay on the ground peacefully. While the emotional moment unfolded on the screen, the overlay text read, "My dog was being put down due to cancer, and the usually non-stop barking neighbor's dog sensed something was wrong and sat quietly with him." Notably, even after Biscuit was put to sleep, Zina would stand in that spot for weeks, looking for him.

Meanwhile, reacting to the TikTok video, @sunfirepoppyonyt commented, "They were saying goodbye. This is quite beautiful, though I am so sorry for your loss." @lonelywitch144 shared, "He’s not looking for your dog but watching you. He’s making sure you’re okay and coming out of the house and seeing the sun. He’s making sure you’re still standing for your baby. Sometimes they’ll send another animal into your life for a brief second or send a neighbor's pet to watch you just to make sure you’re okay and you’re still standing. I have to remind myself of this sometimes too." Similarly, @salina wrote, "Dogs can sense it for real. The day my first dog passed away, her daughter sniffed her and didn't leave her side. She was so confused... (crying thinking about it again)."

@cannabanana, who resonated with the clip, commented, "It’s crazy how they know. Same with my cats. One just knew and stayed next to her even though normally he couldn’t stand her. He even looks for her now." On the other hand, @apricateme said, "Dogs get to know. My Dachshund, who never bothered with my Chihuahua, lay down with her for hours as I was frantically trying to find a vet after she became sick. She died the next morning." @zachariahsala21 shared, "They barked to talk to each other from afar, but when up close they don’t need words to talk; they can just sit silently and know how to make each other comfortable." @kytia_z wrote, "They can sense that last goodbye, and even if they don't know it, they enjoy the last bit of quiet togetherness." @delgadodaniel2jz commented, "The fact that such innocent and beautiful creatures are capable of sensing stuff like this just makes so much sense… I’m so sorry for your loss."
Even though Zina had lived in the neighborhood for years, Cassiol told Newsweek that she had never seen the puppy so calm. "It was quite unusual to see them sitting so peacefully together because Zina is typically a lively and exuberant dog, constantly running, barking, and playing," she shared. Further, talking about her decision to post the video on social media, Cassiol shared, "I thought it was such a sweet moment between them. I always shed a tear when I watch the video, and I just felt like I had to share it."
