Owner followed the meows of her 3 cats into the basement after they suddenly disappeared — and the creepy discovery still haunts her
When a woman could not find her three cats inside her home, she assumed they might have sneaked out through an open window. The cats' sudden disappearance became a mystery until she heard their meows emanating from the basement. The real mystery was about to unravel. Madison had been living in the Colorado residence for years with her roommate and three cats, Leo, Nala, and Sully. Soon after the felines vanished, the duo began a search that led them to something unexpected.
Madison was concerned about her cats and kept an eye out for any possible clues when the faint meows alerted her. She followed the sound and landed in the basement to see one of her cats emerge from a secret door that had been hiding there all this time. In a popular TikTok post (@nala_leo_suli), the cat owner shared an interesting video of her cats hiding in a large and dark space under the house. “Throwback to that time we couldn’t find our cats anywhere because they found a hidden door through our basement wall and were just chilling underneath the house?” an overlay text on the clip revealed. Madison was thrilled to find her cats, but scared of the room at the same time.
“Our three cats had somehow discovered it one day and decided to explore for a couple of hours,” she told Newsweek. When the owner and her roommate stumbled upon the secret room, they decided to look around to see what purpose it might have served for former residents. “A wall in the back of our storage closet in the basement swung open to a huge room underneath the house. We had lived there for nearly two years before finding this out!” Madison said. Safe to say, it was an unpleasant surprise. Wondering if they could make use of the space, the items that were uncovered there signaled against it.
Madison found three things inside the secret room that made her even more suspicious. “A Bible in a ziplock baggie sewn together by fishing wire, a large mason jar sealed full of dirt and rocks, and an old half-developed roll of film,” the cat owner listed. The chilling discovery unsettled her for days. She speculated that someone was working “down there” on an unknown date, and she was not interested in engaging further. “We were renting from a big company with many, many rentals, so we assumed they probably didn’t even know anything about it,” Madison stated. The residence had a long history, tracing back to the 1970s.
Knowing there was a strange room hiding under their house all this time, the pet owner could not shake the eerie feeling until they moved out months later. “We were pretty freaked out by it and decided not to go down there anymore. But at least I think the cats had a blast exploring it,” she noted. Later, Madison came across the footage in her gallery and shared it on the page dedicated to her cats. She felt it was intriguing and funny enough for the internet to enjoy. She also marveled at the curious nature of felines that leads them to unexplored corners of their environment.
