Owner returns to find 5-month-old pup has decorated her living room: 'She ate my house!'

'It looks like the major damage is the blinds. And that’s because she was looking for you.'

Dogs are a man’s best friend for sure, but just like humans, they can be challenging to deal with. That’s exactly what Shanna White, a TikTok user by the handle of @theregoshan1 had to go through. As reported by Newsweek, White had adopted a beautiful red-nosed pit bull and German shepherd mix pup at only 5 weeks old, and lovingly named it Ja'Dioree Scarlett. White shared a video of a surprising sight that she came across as she returned home, and let’s say it wasn’t a pretty one.

She returned home to her 5-month-old pup, who, in the absence of everyone, had taken it upon themselves to change the whole decor of the house and create an absolute mess. A mix of disbelief and sympathy rose in White as she was aware of Ja'Dioree Scarlett’s separation anxiety. Young dogs commonly portray their anxiety in an aggressive manner, and while White was aware of his condition, it didn't help her in processing the chaotic devastation she'd walked into. Her house looked like it had been hit by a tornado.

According to a report by the National Library of Medicine, many canines showcase separation anxiety behaviors, with the percentage ranging between 14–20% overall. Another study showcased that there are a few specific causes behind it that one can keep in mind. A negative greeting response by the owner on returning home or reinforcing punishments like putting them in a crate can not only be one of the major causes of the dogs’ behavior but also further contribute to it. Putting a puppy in a crate overnight or for long periods may lead it to associate with the crate negatively instead of considering it a safe space.

Looking around her living room, White was crying aloud, repeatedly saying, “Look at my house! Look at my house!”

White shared footage of her windows where the blinds had been chewed off, household items splattered across the floor, and even pee on the bed. She provided a side-by-side visual of "How I left vs. what I see when I come back." She calls it "the horror of having a puppy," and several can relate. While we love our furry companions to bits, the frequent use of lint rollers, the clogged drains, the continuous tidying, the accidental stepping-in-dog-pee... it gets a bit tedious. So, losing her cool doesn't make White a bad pet owner, it only makes her a real one.

Shanna initially posted the comparison video on June 17, and it took about three days to reach 1.3 million views. The video has also grabbed 111,000 likes so far. It gathered a mix of reactions, with many users finding the incident funny while others were trying to sympathize as fellow dog owners. @userbiggdee stated, “I blame you cause why you left that toddler out”. @maithai215 commented, “She has separation anxiety. She was probably left alone for too long. And I mean, it looks like the major damage is the blinds. And that’s because she was looking for you.”

Many users also offered their advice, and one user by the handle name @indiaalynn suggested crate training, “Separation anxiety! Crate train her. It takes time! Don’t get rid of her they just have to learn what’s right from wrong.” Another user @yojel.x commented, "Why would you leave a puppy out like that... crate training isn’t abuse guys, leave them in there until they get older."
