Owner's perfectly timed photo of their cat using the toilet like a real human is blowing everyone's mind
Cats are often found in the most unusual places. And some of them are notorious for marking their favorite spots, much to any cat owner’s frustration. But when one Reddit user followed their usually messy cat into the bedroom, hoping to catch her red-handed peeing or pooping on freshly made sheets, they were met with the most “shocking” sight, which left them “enchanted” and “worried.” It was their feline using her owner’s personal toilet like a human, and the owner sure wouldn’t miss the chance to capture the rare moment that has cat owners everywhere feeling incredibly jealous of the “smart kitty.”
The pet owner, u/Glittering-Honey8782, described how their cat, who had a history of litter box issues, began to pee in the toilet on her own. The Reddit post shared the details of the surprising incident on Thursday, December 11, 2025. "I was shocked because I never taught her that before; she did it by herself," revealed the cat parent. They explained that the cat had previously had problems with urinating in inappropriate places around the house, and the owner had been concerned, even taking their pet to the vet. After a check-up, the vet suggested stress might have been causing the issue. The owner then shared that when they returned home from work, they fed their cat as usual and went about their routine. However, what they encountered next was completely unexpected. The cat was headed toward one of the "forbidden" rooms, where it surprised the owner again by pooping in the toilet.
While it seems like a bizarre new skill, there might be more to it than just a funny quirk. According to Avoca Drive Animal Hospital, one of the common reasons for a cat to urinate outside the litter box is a condition called Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD). This disease can cause pain and discomfort, leading cats to avoid the litter box and seek other places to relieve themselves. Stress, changes in the home, or even an unclean litter box could also play a role in triggering the problem.
Furthermore, the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine points out that medical conditions such as kidney disease, thyroid disease, diabetes, and even digestive tract problems can cause cats to lose control over their urination and defecation. Age-related conditions can also affect a cat's ability to get to the litter box when needed. Mobility issues or confusion may cause them to eliminate in other areas of the house. These challenges are common in older cats and can impact their bathroom habits.
The Reddit post quickly attracted attention, with users leaving a variety of reactions in the comment section. Many expressed amazement at the cat's newfound toilet habits, while others shared similar experiences with their own pets. One user, u/IllustriousWash8721, joked, "I think your cat has an extra brain cell." u/emveetu mentioned, "Have you tried changing the litter? I had the same problem, and it was because the regular clay litter was getting stuck on him when he peed. So I switched to crystal clumping litter, which is highly absorbent and controls odor, and voila, he is again peeing in the litter box." While u/TutskyyJancek commented, "This kitty can even learn flushing. A smart one."
