Playful Pit Bull gets stung by thousands of bees and survives – only to face a bigger heartbreak no one saw coming
The gentle soul of a Pit Bull, enduring the most painful time of his life, inspired hearts with his resilience. Rescuers came across an ailing dog stung by thousands of bees after he meddled with a honeycomb, which triggered a series of health complications in September 2016. While the dog battled for his life, the vets were shocked by a heartbreaking reality that left the Pit Bull with no choice.
The dog named Stinger was rushed to the nearest animal hospital in a miserable state, covered in bee stings on every inch of his body. His family from West Michigan seemed concerned for his health after the vets revealed that the pup suffered from severe allergic reactions to the painful stings and the antibiotics he was given. The vets managed to treat the bee stings but simultaneously discovered that he was underweight, had scabies, and bladder issues, per Wamiz. Stinger was also diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Pemphigus. When they wanted to inform his owners about his condition, they reportedly never showed up.
The merciless owners had dropped the dog off at the vet to never return, and it took the rescuers a while before they realized the poor animal’s tragedy. However, a woman from LuvnPupz rescue walked in as a ray of sunshine for Stinger. Taking note of the dog’s miserable state, rescuer Carri Shipala decided to take him under her care and moved him to her shelter. Despite the odds stacked against him, Stinger did not give up and inspired everyone with his resilience and zeal for life. In a different report by News Center Maine, Shipala said, “He encountered ground bees—a thousand of them. He's stung everywhere.”
Shipala was determined to give Stinger another chance at life, even though he was abandoned by his owners in his painful state. She believed the dog was also trying his best to recover and restore his life to normalcy. "He's eating, drinking, and going potty. So, he's not miserable by any means. He’s completely spoiled there,” the rescuer shared. Shipala runs her rescue shelter with the aim to “rehabilitate” as many rescue dogs as possible and loves taking the most difficult cases under her care. "Only because I feel like it's what a true rescue is.”
The rescuer noted that the Pit Bull would probably need medications for the rest of his life, and it would be expensive to take care of him. Fortunately, the dog who’s been through it all has now found his forever home, finally getting the life he deserves.
According to a report by FOUR PAWS International, there are several reasons why an owner may abandon their pet. An animal’s health and age are among the top reasons, as older or ill pets require more care, time, and costly vet bills. Owners must consider the level of care and commitment required before adopting a pet to prevent such situations.
