Puppy stranded on remote island gets second chance at life, all thanks to one photographer’s kindness

There is perhaps nothing more satisfying than providing a better and more secure life to someone who truly needs it. Similarly, when Wesley White, a photographer, found a starving dog, he immediately decided to get the puppy to safety. Notably, the stranded dog was left abandoned near a mangrove fishing shack on a remote Island in Belize. Meanwhile, White, who was kayaking to a nearby island, spotted the canine when he stopped midway for a quick meal break, Bored Panda reported. 

"The moment I found the puppy was surreal. Resting in the shade of mangroves, I suddenly noticed a sweet, wiggling puppy on an abandoned fishing shack. Seeing him without food or water, I felt an overwhelming urge to help. The thought of leaving him to fend for himself, knowing survival was impossible, was unbearable. My motivation stemmed from the belief that, in today’s interconnected world, I could reach out to a global community of animal lovers for support," he shared with the outlet. Without any second thoughts, Wesley brought the dog into his kayak and brought him back to the mainland. Since the man was in Belize for work purposes, he had only 36 hours to ensure the dog's safety before leaving the country. "I knew I had to act quickly to give him a fighting chance," White shared.

When the photographer shared about the rescued puppy on social media, his friends, family, and especially the staff at the resort he was photographing connected him to Dr. Mia and the local humane society. "With their support, a network of helpers—including Dr. Mia and resort staff—rallied to ensure the puppy, later named Winston, received the care he needed," White added. Interestingly, even after leaving Belize, he wanted to adopt Winston once he was healthy and fit for travel. On the other hand, Melanie, a foster mom at the local humane society, took care of the dog and kept White updated with photos and messages about Winston's health. "Watching Winston gain weight and grow healthier was heartwarming, and the speed of his transformation was astonishing," White revealed. 

After spending almost two months with his foster mom, Winston finally reunited with White and headed to his forever-happy home. "He's been an amazing addition to our family and grown to be a very calm sweet boy. I could have never left him there and I'd do it 100 times more if I had room for all the pups in this world who need a good home," the man shared in an Instagram post. It's been a little over 6 years that Winston has been living his best life with White and his family. “His excitement to be with us each morning and his affectionate kisses remind me daily of the incredible journey we’ve shared. Winston’s love and gratitude have only deepened our bond," he revealed. Additionally, White runs an official Instagram account in Winston's name (@winston_bz), where he shares the puppy's adorable activities. The social media account is quite popular among animal lovers, with over 55k followers.
