Puppy was left to die until an animal shelter gave him a lifeline — and his transformation has us in tears

If you know anything about gardening, then you are aware of the efforts put behind nurturing a tiny seed into blossoming flowers. You first gently sow the seeds, water them every single day, and patiently wait for them to grow into something extraordinary. This astonishing transformation isn't just limited to trees; rather, it screams a universal truth: love and kindness are the ultimate forces that lead to unimaginable growth and prosperity. This profound truth about life was witnessed when Little Steps Matter Foundation, an animal shelter in Bali, rescued an abandoned animal and gave him a second chance at life.

Two volunteers found Alfie, the abandoned dog, inside a vacant building in a fatal condition. He was physically so weak that the rescue team initially thought that he was a senior dog who had been given up. However, later, they were startled to learn that Alfie was just a 3-year-old puppy who had developed severe infections on his body, was dehydrated, and was blind in one eye. "He became the darling of our team, and he loved all the attention he got. He knew that with us, he was safe," Sabrina, a volunteer, said, explaining how Alfie instantly befriended everyone at the shelter, quickly adapting to his new life. With time, Alfie's health improved significantly, as his fur started growing again, and he somehow learnt to survive with just one eye.
"It was amazing to see him so joyful and excited about life. He had overcome the neglect and suffering and was ready for his forever new home," Sabrina. Thankfully, a couple, Mia and Stephen, visited the animal shelter, and they instantly formed a special bond with Alfie, eventually adopting him and making him a part of their family. Though Alfie was saved just in time, a report by Shelter Animal Count claims that at least one animal is abused every 60 seconds across the globe. Further, the report says that nearly 10 million animals die because of cruelty in the United States alone.
Meanwhile, Alfie's timely rescue and his drastic transformation, shared anonymously on Reddit by u/any_sound_2863, received an outpouring of love on social media. Echoing the sentiments, u/vanessainlove commented, "The woman’s face being puffy from crying in the beginning told me everything I needed to know about how wonderful these people are." Similarly, another user who goes by u/muddybanana13 on the platform shared, "Tears...When someone truly loves you and takes care of you unconditionally, whether it’s a dog or a human, you’re being healed. Unbelievable exchange of energy. I wish all of humanity treated one another this way so we could heal each other, the animals, nature, and everything.

Another person, u/notallowed, said, "To be honest, it makes me sadder seeing these videos multiple times a day knowing there are thousands of dogs out there cold, scared, and hungry who don’t/can’t be saved and are going to die that way." u/mewouth wrote, "Omg I’m crying, you beautiful human. Thank you for saving him. He’s unrecognizable. He’s beautiful, and so are you." u/critical-art-9277, who seemed overwhelmed watching the dog's unbelievable transformation, commented, "Those people who rescue and nurse strays back to good health are the salt of the earth. Not all heroes wear capes."
