Rescue dog born with two legs and partially blind walks for the first time — her joy is unforgettable

Amira, a former stray dog born without front legs, surprisingly survived on the streets of Thailand for 10 long years before Soi Dog Foundation rescued her. As a disabled pup, Amira was heavily dependent on her sense of smell, which had become difficult since she was in a wheelchair all the time. Luckily, when the shelter saw her struggling to smell the grass in her rolling chair, they knew Amira wanted something better, and that's when they decided to arrange for prosthetics. Lara Pleasence, her dog mom, who handles @amira.amiracle's Instagram page, shared the beautiful moment when Amira walked for the first time, using artificial limbs, leaving everyone teary-eyed.

Amira, an 11-year-old dog, lived a very traumatic life on the streets, taking care of all her puppies in the extreme Thai weather. "And just when she should be heading into an age where dogs should be enjoying a retirement life, someone shot her in the head, blinding her left eye and leaving an abscess the size of my thumb in her forehead," Lara shared, talking about Amira's hardships. In quest of giving her the life she deserved, the shelter began its hunt for the perfect prosthetics. "It wasn’t easy since she doesn’t have enough leg to attach anything to, but we knew that there must be another way," Lara added. Fortunately, over a year, Amira went from wearing simple nub sockets to mid-height and then a pair of full-sized artificial limbs.
"To say that she loves her legs is an understatement. They are freedom to her…to go farther and faster than she ever could in her entire life. Watching her strut still amazes me every single day," Lara wrote in the caption. When she made Amira wear prosthetics, the sweet pup started walking, excitement clearly visible in her eyes, and the precious moment revealed how much the baby longed for that newfound normalcy. Interestingly, a study published in the Journal of Neuroscience revealed that smell and vision are connected in the brains of dogs, something that's alien to any other species. Well, needless to say, the shelter just in time recognized how important it was for Amira to be able to smell things around her, as it significantly impacted her vision also.
When Amira's mom, Lara, shared her incredible journey on social media, the heartwarming post received an outpouring of love, leaving people awestruck. For instance, a user who goes by @kimagodin on Instagram commented, "This is actually so amazing and so lovely. My heart goes out to animals that are being treated with so much love. Similarly, @tsquared0429 said, "It made my day. Some people have amazing hearts." Another user who goes by @carlinwaltonwalton on the platform wished, "This is a strong dog; I hope it can live happily!" Echoing the sentiments, @crioulasilvani commented, "May God empower this person more and more and give the comfort to take care of this cutie until the last day of his life." On the other hand, @rosemariezamorano shared, "What a joyful moment for this pet to be able to walk with prosthetic legs. Thank you!"
