Senior dog found alive in her own grave — owner’s chilling excuse sparks outrage

Every day, we hear countless stories about people moving mountains to make their pets happy. Honoring the camaraderie and emotional support that their pets provide, most owners ensure that their four-legged babies are always at ease, living their lives in the best possible way. However, not all animals are fortunate enough to get parents who value, love, and cherish them for life; some are left to die alone in solitude, especially during their final moments. While many accept their fate and leave the world without a proper closure, only a few experience unconditional love from strangers who step up to their rescue. Likewise, an individual (u/editor-dizzy on Reddit) who found a senior dog stuck in a grave shared the heartbreaking truth attached to it, leaving everyone on the internet sobbing.

It all started when the author and their husband heard "weird noises" at around 10:30 at night while watching TV at home. "It was definitely not the two yappy dogs that we are familiar with, and the other neighbors don’t have dogs," they wrote. The author looked outside but couldn't see anything, and they could no longer hear the noise after like 30 minutes, so the couple dismissed the whole incident, thinking it was a fox, and carried on with their day as usual. "I went to bed, and around midnight, my husband called me, saying, 'Help. It’s a blind and deaf dog stuck in a grave-sized hole with an engraved tombstone next to it,'" they wrote.
The couple found the dog next to a rock, engraved with the name "Chrissy." They didn't recognize the dog, and hence, asked one of their neighbors, who was also equally clueless about the pup. "We bring her home because at this point, she’s been crying for hours, and who knows how long she has been trapped there. It still gets down in the 40s at night, and this dog is clearly not in her prime health. She’s blind, deaf, senile, exhausted, and panicked," they revealed. The poor puppy refused to drink water, as she constantly kept pacing around the room and bumping into things.
Somehow, the couple managed to put the distressed dog to sleep, but that lasted for an hour and a half, as she soon woke up, yelping and pacing all night long. At around 6:30 am, their husband looked outside, only to find people walking around in the neighborhood. "It is their dog. AND IT IS A LITERAL PET CEMETERY. AND… it is her grave," the author shared. The dog's owner said that the pup had stopped eating weeks ago, so they had already assumed that her end was near. Hence, they decided to dig her grave in advance.
"So… do we think that it’s just a coincidence that this blind, deaf, and elderly dog was able to escape her house unnoticed and accidentally get herself trapped in her own grave?" the author asked. Moreover, the couple shared another shocking detail about the whole incident. They said that the dog they found next to the headstone was Jody, and the headstone placed next to where she was found was actually for another dog named Chrissy, who was already buried there. Meanwhile, reacting to the story, u/negativecharacter2 commented, "That is so, so heartbreaking. If the dog is too unwell to live, they should have taken her to be euthanized. Poor thing, I hope you are able to do right by this dog. Take them under care for or take them to a vet and see what can be done."

Another person who goes by u/helllfae on Reddit revealed, "I have a very small senior dog who's blind that I adopted as a favor for someone who had to give him up. He's really annoying to be honest, but I love him, and this picture is absolutely f****** heartbreaking. I know he's old, but this dog also looks neglected. He should be trimmed and have more weight on him." People unanimously agreed that such a treatment was barbaric and that no dog should have to wait in a grave for their final day to come.
