This dog couldn’t bear the heartbreak — passed away just days after losing her best friend

Dogs may not understand death like we do, but the absence of someone dear often takes a toll on them, leaving them heartbroken. Though not as evident as in humans, dogs also mourn the loss in their own way. From restless pacing and sleepless nights to loss of appetite, they go through many stages of anxiety and distress. While many dogs recover from the profound grief, others struggle with loneliness and eventually succumb to the heartache. On a related note, a dog owner who runs the Instagram page Life with Pitbulls TX (@lifewithpitbullstx) experienced this firsthand when she lost both her dogs, Cream and Luna, within a week.

When Cream, the male pitbull, passed away, Luna, who had lived with him for almost a decade, couldn't bear the loss. So, after only 6 days, she, too, passed away. "Soul tied for eternity," the grieving dog owner shared in the caption, reflecting on the beautiful bond. In the heartfelt video, she also attached some precious pictures of her babies, who were literally inseparable. This, perhaps, explains why one couldn't take the absence of her best friend well. Notably, in another reel, the woman revealed that Luna, her 9-year-old pitbull, passed away just hours after her son's birth. "When after 9 years, you finally give your dog her first baby brother... even if it was just for a day," she revealed, while sharing glimpses of Luna and her newborn baby.

Just like Luna, as per New Scientist, nearly 90% of dogs who have experienced the death of a canine companion display negative behaviors in the following months. They might refuse to eat, become less lively or playful, and become more fearful. "Separation from a companion could be expected to cause behavioral changes, which certainly overlap those behaviors that we normally interpret as being grief and mourning," Federica Pirrone at the University of Milan, Italy, said.
Meanwhile, the story of Cream and Luna received an outpouring of love on social media, leaving people, especially pet parents, heartbroken. Echoing the sentiments, a user who goes by @addie.mhmmm24 said, "I'm so sorry for your loss. I can only imagine losing two loved ones so close apart. My condolences." @thenewadventuresofsands revealed, "I worry about this for my twins. They are also look-alikes (even though they aren’t the same breed). We got them a year apart, and they are inseparable." A user, @bossy_jourdain_ on Instagram, pointed out, "Broken heart syndrome is so very real. Sometimes one can’t live without their other half... My condolences to the owners. I can’t imagine how hard this is."

Likewise, @taryn_eugarde, who has a similar experience, shared, "This happened to my two rottweilers. My boy passed away, and then, 3 weeks to the day, my girl. I miss them so much. But they were meant to be together in this life and the next. I take some comfort in knowing that they are together again. I would do anything for one more day with them both. They were the best part of my life, the best part of me. Carter & Jordan forever."
