This dog jumped an 8-foot fence and swam a mile — what happened next left rescuers stunned

Dogs are like kids; the minute you turn your back, they'll come up with a million ways to escape home, and more often than not, these wild adventures take an ugly turn, putting them in fatal situations. As per a report by Jackson Back Home, worldwide, more than 10 million dogs go missing every year. That's exactly what happened when Amber, a 5-year-old dog, escaped her foster home in April 2025. Amber, the mischievous dog, was rescued from the streets of Qatar and was transferred to an experienced foster family in England. However, as per CNN, the next morning, she somehow managed to jump over the 8-foot-high fence and escape from her new foster family's garden.

They immediately reached out to the animal shelter and even posted about Amber's escape on social media, hoping that this would help them find their dog. Thankfully, Amber was spotted at multiple places, and her pictures and videos helped the rescue service track her movement. "Within the first three weeks she was probably only travelling around 10 miles from where she had gone missing, but in different directions," said Sam Collins, the founder of KS Angels Rescue. The team installed numerous cameras and feeding stations as part of their search operation, but despite all attempts, they were clearly struggling to find Amber. "We were doing this for three or four weeks, and we always seemed to be one step behind her. Then it all went dark around the four-week mark, and we stopped getting any reliable sightings," he added.
Collins said he believes that they lost track of Amber when she travelled 30 miles to the coastal town of Poole. Though locals had reported seeing a stray dog, it was too early to make any conclusions. Interestingly, Amber manages to swim a mile from Sandbanks and reach Brownsea Island. "She spent three days there, and there was a search party from the National Trust, as well as a lady who lived there who put food out for her every night. She[Amber] probably got spooked by all the people trying to catch her, so she tried to swim back to Sandbanks but got into trouble when she got caught in the currents and tide," Collins revealed. Things could have been very ugly if a passing boat hadn't noticed Amber struggling. A kind man on the boat jumped into the water to help the dog get onto the boat.
Once back to safety, Amber was immediately rushed to the hospital, where the vet confirmed that she was alright, except had lost some weight. The news of her rescue reached Collins, who recognized the dog, all thanks to a scar on her nose. "She’s got a couple of bruises where she’s probably caught herself on barbed wire, thorn bushes or something, but other than that, she’s in remarkable condition considering," he said. When Sam Collins shared the heartwarming update on Facebook, people were thrilled to see Amber back with her foster family and getting the love she deserves. For instance, echoing the sentiments, Donna Bailey commented, "So lovely to see her bonding with her foster family." Similarly, another user who goes by Tanya Soto Navarro on Facebook shared, "Thank you so much for taking care of her and for spoiling her with the love she truly deserves."
