Wholesome video captures the moment a rescue puppy finally feels safe in her rescuer's arms

It's very difficult to trust someone again, especially when you have had a traumatic past. Well, every time you let your guard down, those daunting memories haunt you, forcing you to retreat into the darkness. However, most people easily overcome their distressing histories with genuine love, care, and, of course, compassion. Something equally beautiful unfolded when Sara Morocco volunteer (u/sproggs44 on Reddit) shared the exact moment a rescue puppy, Alma, at their shelter felt at home.

In the incredible clip, the adorable puppy was captured snuggling into a man's chest, as if he was her entire universe. The rescuer too, with equal love, held the canine close to his heart, much like a doting father cuddling his child. The man kept gently caressing Alma as if ensuring her that no matter what, he would never leave her side. "When a rescue puppy finally feels safe. One of our rescues here at Sara Morocco receiving the love they waited so long for," the animal refuge revealed in the caption. The precious moment underlined how empathy and solicitude can make someone feel safe, particularly those with past sufferings.
Meanwhile, reacting to the Reddit post, u/jefbenet shared, "It took almost two years for my baby girl Chihuahua to trust me; I worked diligently every day to gain her trust." The first time she came to me of her own volition, I cried tears of joy! I cherished that moment knowing we had overcome the first of many hurdles towards giving her the life she deserves after she was rescued from a hoarding situation with TWENTY other chihuahuas. We continue to work to maintain and bolster that trust!"

On the other hand, u/shilohconlan revealed, "This is exactly what happened with me and my girl Whitney when I rescued her in Alabama. I drove down to get her and camped around before coming home. She didn’t know how to snuggle. She didn’t know that I was going to love her and treat her like the princess she was! A couple of days after I got her, I was sitting by my van and scooped her up, and she collapsed right into me like above. The camping neighbors saw it, and I heard legit aww. She was tied up without food and water when she was found by a rescue, and she had a shock collar on her to prevent her from barking. She had been a mama (Side note: Found out she LOVES kittens and is still a good mama to babies). I got sidetracked talking about my best friend. I will add some cute tax for your troubles.

Notably, as per a report in Newsweek, the animal rescue learned about an abandoned 6-month-old puppy on the streets in February 2025. They believed that, unfortunately, Alma had been hit by a car. The organization couldn't immediately take Alma under their care, first because they had no space and secondly because they were fighting an outbreak of parvovirus. But, thanks to the family who found Alma because they chose to look after her before SARA could bring her in. "Every day she is getting better, walking a bit more and settling well into life at the Farm Refuge, making friends with the cats and dogs and the occasional human," Hazel, an official from SARA, shared with the news outlet.
