A dog owner found herself in a frantic situation after realizing her naughty pooch had devoured an entire homemade quiche. Concerned for her pet, she called poison control center, and read out the full recipe in a desperate attempt to figure out whether any ingredients could harm her canine. The TikTok post detailing the incident, shared on March 11, 2025, depicts the chaos that unfolded before the owner realized a single ingredient may have ended up keeping her furry companion safe.

TikTok user @mollyscullion explained the ordeal in her video, saying her dog’s habit of counter surfing had always “been an issue,” but this time, the dog took things to a whole new level, managing to get its paws on the quiche that had been placed far back on the counter. She said, “I come back from the shower and find that the quiche is empty.” She mentioned in her clip how she first hurriedly called her vet, who advised her to contact animal poison control. When a worker named Christy answered, she told Molly, “Tell me all about the quiche, give me the recipe.” Molly then listed the ingredients one by one, onion, garlic, dairy, and Christy immediately asked, “Alright, how big is this onion? Small, medium, large?” Molly replied it was “probably medium,” leading Christy to say they needed to be “on the same page” about the size.

The questions continued as Molly told her that only one clove of garlic had been used. Christy reassured her, explaining that one clove was fine and adding, “Forty-two is where we should start to get really worried.” Dairy was another concern, but Christy said it would mostly cause stomach upset because dogs are lactose intolerant. Molly then revealed her husband was lactose intolerant too, which meant the quiche had been made without dairy. After speaking with a vet, Christy returned to the call to explain that a 55-pound dog would not be in danger from onions unless it had eaten “one and a half medium-size onions,” adding that the extra half would be the issue.

With that information, Molly finally felt some relief. Christy told her the dog “just might have a little stomach upset from the onion and the amount of food that she ate, but overall she should be good to go.” According to experts at Garden State Veterinary Specialists, dogs can get sick from onions if they eat about 0.5% of their body weight in onions. For example, a 44-pound dog would need to eat around one medium onion (about 100 grams) to start feeling the toxic effects. Smaller dogs are at risk from even tiny amounts, like less than a teaspoon of onion powder. Certain breeds, especially Japanese ones like Akitas and Shiba Inus, are more sensitive to the harmful effects of onions.

Many internet users also shared their own experiences of similar incidents. @lsaurusrex83 wrote, "My corgi ate an entire package of King’s Hawaiian rolls. She was super bloated and thirsty and learned not a single lesson." @sunnydelight24 shared, "My dog ate 64 hot dogs once. Ruined my brother's birthday, but he was fine." @auntiekiwii mentioned, "My dog ate an entire raspberry pie, then proceeded to have explosive diarrhea all over the white carpet. Fun times. She was fine after."
