Woman saw alligator snatch her dog. Instead of freezing, she launched herself at it: 'She is my baby'

You would never jump into the water to fight a giant alligator, right? And rightfully so, because there's winning that battle. However, Kim Spencer, a native of Florida, is built differently. Yes, as wild as it may sound, Spencer fought a deadly alligator all alone to rescue her beloved dog, Kona. Well, Kona was out for her evening walk with her mom when the alligator grabbed her by the head, as reported by Fox 13 Tampa Bay. What could have ended as a heartbreaking story of misery quickly turned into an incredible story of bravery.

Initially, Spencer didn't see anything in the water until she heard a noise. It was at this moment that the woman saw the alligator's eyes and realized the danger approaching. Moments later, the crocodile literally jumped out of the lake, attacking Kona's entire head. "She's facing it, it's facing her, and it suddenly jumped at her and got her. So she was in all the way up to here, like her whole head inside," Spencer recalled the terrifying incident. Without any second thought, the courageous woman jumped on the alligator, trying to free Kona by opening its jaws.
"We just got lucky because it ran just as quickly as it ran after us; it went right back into the water," Spencer added. Fortunately, Spencer and Kona both sustained no life-threatening injuries except for minor wounds. "We are empty nesters. She is my baby. So I wasn't ready to take on the mindset that it was an animal vs. human [situation]," the woman said to the outlet. Moreover, Spencer warned all pet parents about such tragic situations.
Meanwhile, @paultierney-nb3qe commented, "This is the definition of unconditional love. Only dog owners would understand what she did. A great human being!" @anessakhan3791 wrote, "Never underestimate the power of a mom. She will put up a strong fight against anyone or anything to protect her baby, human or fur." Similarly, @aerinlynn1665 said, "Since the beginning of time, dogs have laid down their lives for us… And many of us are willing to do the same for them. That love runs deep." @karenh2890 pointed out, "She looks like a very physically fit woman. I give her a lot of credit. I'm so happy she was successful." @tonymoore2418 commented, "Glad she kept her hands; imagine how grateful her dog is. That dog experienced an insane rescue.

On the other hand, @see-rious-ley said, "This lady has got to be one of the most in-shape persons I’ve seen on TV! Kudos to your physical strength and your absolute LOVE for your fur baby that he’s now alive and healthy! I hope you both get well soon!" @robbubba8020 wrote, "Glad it worked out for them, but you never ever never walk your dog around any pond or lake or creek in our state; it's too dangerous for pets and their owners."
