Woman with three cats felt the 'most grumpy' one always kept its distance. Then, she got sick

Cats are often labeled as naturally unaffectionate, especially when compared to dogs. However, Emma's (u/proper-ad-8829 on Reddit) incredible story about her loving cat, Pastis, shattered this stereotypical belief. Notably, the woman, who owns three cats, had always thought that Pastis was the grumpiest of the clowder. However, it was all proven wrong when Emma fell ill.

"I have been really struggling with flu lately," she began, revealing how her 7-year-old feline unexpectedly became her caretaker. "Out of my 3 cats, the most grumpy/standoffish one has decided to take charge of being my primary doctor," Emma shared in the post. Additionally, the cat owner shared two adorable pictures—one capturing Pastis sitting firmly on Emma's chest, glaring at the camera. "He constantly looks surprised at where he’s sat! Never has he been so affectionate! Even the cool cats care," she added. Moreover, revealing more about her cat's behavior, Emma shared that the people who rescued Pastis might not have understood its loving nature. "We appreciate Pastis and his constant disapproval. It keeps us humble," she added.

The now-viral Reddit post received an overwhelming response on social media. Meanwhile, reacting to the wholesome cat story, u/missbehaving6 commented, "Clearly you are at the level of illness that needs to be constantly closely monitored. And he is taking that seriously." u/austinfan4life wrote, "That's how you know, that's the cat that cares the most, even if he/she is the grumpiest. I remember I had a cat growing up, she hated everyone, but when I moved in with my stepmom, I was the only one who could go near her. It was my dad's cat technically, but the cat I can tell remembered me and claimed me. My stepmom was surprised I could touch the cat, without the claws coming out. She even let me pick her up, which she never allowed anyone to do. So you definitely have a cat, no matter how grumpy they are, are the ones that always care the most."

Maybe he’s just the mature one who gets done with everybody else’s shit but still keeps them in check. I now think this guy is the glue keeping the family together. This is a great, grumpy cat." u/noble7878 wrote, "I can't express how much I enjoy the first picture. At first glance, it looks like the cat took the photo and it's framed like every 50-year-old man's Facebook profile picture." u/vorpalgazebo wrote, "Kitties know when you're feeling off. When I broke my ankle, my cat jumped on me and swatted and hissed at my husband who came over for food. That night, she kept vigil all night, growling at the foxes outside. She is never like this normally. Just those first couple days, she was like 'Momma is sick. Must protect.'"

On the other hand, talking to Newsweek, Emma shared, "While I was sick, he came to sit on me seven or eight times a day. Usually, Pastis is quite grumpy and independent. When he decides to gift you with attention, it's sudden—he'll sit on your chest and stare into your soul." Pastis was so much in charge of its owner that it did not give the other two cats the chance to comfort Emma.
