Cease-and-desist letter didn’t stop neighbors' harassment over her dog stepping on their lawn once — so she plotted quiet revenge with a jar of seeds
A Reddit user found herself at odds with her neighbors over a minor incident involving her dog. What started as a brief step onto a neighbor’s lawn quickly escalated into repeated "harassment" that had been building for years. Despite sending a cease-and-desist letter, the neighbors’ behavior continued, prompting her to quietly plan a form of revenge. On May 10, 2025, she shared the story on Reddit, detailing the steps she took to push back in a clever, non-violent way.
@u/DogMomAF15, shared that her young herding dog is always on the move and criss-crosses them constantly on walks. During an outing with her husband, the dog briefly stepped onto a neighbor’s grass on the eminent domain portion, “and was off the grass in a split second.” However, the neighbor responded angrily online, and several others joined in, insisting that dogs should remain on their own property. "That neighbor berated him and then posted about it on social media," she mentioned.
The woman described a history of harassment from the same neighborhood. Years ago, she had to call the police when a neighbor came onto her property screaming, banging on her door, and refusing to leave. She noted that the current harassment seemed coordinated, with multiple neighbors trying to intimidate her. She had her attorney issue a cease-and-desist letter, but even that felt insufficient after years of stress. In her post, she emphasized that her dog never damages their lawns or uses them as a bathroom, and "literally just steps on or sniffs" them.
To get back at the neighbors, she devised a quiet plan using dandelions from the large field behind her house. She collected a jar full of seeds and hinted at her intended action in her Reddit post, saying, “Won’t it be a shame a few weeks from now when their perfect lawns are suddenly covered in dandelions?” Many internet users then filled the comment section, sharing their own suggestions for getting back at such neighbors. One user wrote, "Freeze beef bouillon in an ice cube tray. Toss a couple of cubes into the lawn when nobody's looking... The cubes will melt into the grass. Your neighbor will have a beef scented lawn." Meanwhile, u/CoDaDeyLove agreed, "Also, the salt in the bouillon cubes will kill the grass over time." u/Independent-Let-5052 commented, "Bamboo, always bamboo."
Feuds between neighbors are not uncommon, but sometimes small disputes lead to creative solutions. In another incident, a person dealt with a neighbor whose dog repeatedly left messes in their yard, despite the neighbor always denying it, saying, “Unless you can prove it, it wasn’t my dog.” So one day, the person left a small bag of used diapers on the porch, which the dog tore open. Using gloves, they collected the scattered mess and placed it on the dog owner’s porch. When confronted, they calmly said the items weren’t theirs, and they didn’t own a dog. After that, the neighbor seemed to have learned their lesson, and the problem came to an end.
