The neighbor often fed him treats from over the fence that upset the dog’s stomach and messed with his training.

A couple was alarmed after overhearing a conversation between their "friendly" neighbor and a woman. It seemed like they were plotting to steal their precious dog with blue eyes for the woman’s daughter. Without hesitation, the couple took precautions to ensure their dog was protected from the potential “nefarious deeds” of the neighbors. In a Reddit post shared under u/Joy_Rad, the pet owner opened up about their chilling encounter with Anne, the suspicious woman next door, constantly eyeing their dog.

The pet owner revealed that their 7-month-old puppy was adopted from a shelter. They referred to him as “Doggo” for the sake of the Reddit post with 2,900 votes. He was a cross between a Boston Terrier and an Australian Cattle Dog, giving him a unique mix of traits. While Doggo’s black-and-white fur was admirable, what really caught people’s attention were his blue eyes. “My partner, daughter, and I adopted him a few months ago, and we love him very much. He's family,” the owner shared. Their "friendly," elderly neighbor, Anne, was similarly mesmerized by Doggo’s beautiful eyes and gentle nature. She often fed him treats from over the fence that upset the dog’s stomach and messed with his training.

Though Anne agreed to stop, the treats kept coming. “Today, I was in my garage working on a project. I brought Doggo out with me so he could run around and play. He ran to Anne's fence to greet her and her old dog, Ace,” the owner wrote. Anne was speaking to a young woman about Doggo and secretly offering him treats. "Come here, who's a good boy? You want another?” the owner heard her saying. The woman mentioned that Doggo would make a great pet for her daughter, Heather. The owner stepped out and called their dog, who did not respond—too distracted by the treats. Anne assured them it was “just two.”

Later, the owner spoke with their partner at home, and they mutually agreed to keep Doggo inside. When the owner returned to the garage, they heard the young woman from over the fence speaking on the phone. “You should see this dog next door. So sweet and gentle. Black and white, and get this. Blue eyes,” she said. Alarm bells went off immediately. The couple suspected a plan to steal their pup and decided to contact the police after a failed attempt to talk to Anne. They suggested that security cameras be installed, and an additional garden fence to keep Doggo out of reach. “He said they don't make a report or take records unless or until a crime has been committed.”

On their second try, the pet owners finally confronted Anne, who acted casual and unassuming. “I told her that we must insist she stops feeding our dog, that he has medical issues (I didn't get into details. Let her wonder), and is on expensive, prescription food,” the owner stated. Anne confirmed that Heather wanted a girl dog. When they questioned her about the suspicious conversation, she shrugged it off as a misunderstanding. She finally agreed to stop feeding Doggo, and the couple installed cameras to be safe and prevent a potential dog theft.
