Couple sent their 5-month-old Golden Retriever to daycare to make friends — but the photos they got back revealed a painful truth

It is true when they say, dogs have their own personalities. Cherry, a 5-month-old Golden Retriever, was deeply loved and cared for by her owner, Rachel. She and her husband lived in their Ohio home with their puppy and tried to spend as much time with Cherry as possible. While they worked remotely, the pup snuggled beside them all day, enjoying their presence. However, once a week, Cherry was sent to daycare to socialize with other puppies. It wasn’t until the daycare sent her photos that Rachel discovered a heartbreaking fact.

The 28-year-old woman figured that it was the right time for Cherry to meet and interact with new puppy friends. They have been “sending Cherry to daycare once a week or so to try to socialize her with other dogs and make friends,” the owner told Newsweek. Last month, Rachel was sent a report card from the daycare with photos of Cherry. “The report cards they send, she looks super sad, which breaks my heart,” she said.

While she believes the puppy “loves” visiting the daycare and mingling with the workers, she was not making fast friends. Cherry “has been a bit overwhelmed with all the pups to play with,” Rachel noted. In a TikTok post by @goldencherrygirl, the owner revealed the pictures in Cherry’s report card. “Mom, do I have to go to daycare today? It’s been hard for me to make friends,” an overlay on the first picture hinted. Cherry was at home contemplating her daycare visit. In the following pictures, Cherry had a somber expression on her face as the dog seemed lonely on the side while other daycare puppies played together. The final picture showed a close-up of the sad-looking pup, standing near the daycare worker.

The photos concerned Rachel, who began worrying about Cherry’s social skills. “Why is she always standing alone? And giving those sad eyes at daycare, ugh!” the caption stated. While the dog was smothered with all the love in the world at home, daycare time had turned out to be a bit of a challenge for Cherry as she struggled to make new friends. However, the pet owners have their hopes up. “We think she's just a shy girl coming out of her shell, as it can take some time to be around a lot of other pups, and she still seems to really enjoy going to daycare,” Rachel continued. “She's a super friendly, sweet girl, but loves her naps and isn't used to chaos!”

The post brought in 2.7 million views and 610,600 likes. Fellow pet owners reassured Rachel by sharing similar stories of their dogs. “One time, I went with my dog to the dog park, and all the other dogs just ignored him, and he was running after them to play, but none of them wanted to. I left crying that day,” wrote @imagamcohen5 and @al1cec noted, “I work at a dog daycare and don’t worry, they will make a friend soon!” In a follow-up post, Rachel updated about her dog's progress and had successfully made "one friend."
