Dog mom was confused when her pup came home ‘traumatized’ from ‘safe’ daycare — then strangers revealed what staff hid
A dog owner had a nightmare of an experience after leaving her pet in a doggy daycare for a couple of days. In a viral post on Reddit, the owner (u/SwimmingDoubt2869) narrated a chilling story that changed her perspective on daycares. She had been taking her Border Collie to a familiar dog daycare for years, where her pet could enjoy some free time when she was busy with work. Having developed a sense of trust with the facility, the dog owner once dropped off her pup with them for a few days when she had to travel. She thought it was a good idea since her dog knew the place and people there. Soon, she got a brutal reality check that prompted her not to trust a daycare again.
The woman was out traveling but remained concerned about her dog back at home. The dog daycare shared frequent updates on Instagram Stories, so the owner felt reassured that everything was going fine. One day, the owner felt the urge to text the daycare staff asking about her dog. They strangely responded only with a video of him several hours later. It raised suspicions in the owner about their whereabouts. “I arrived on a Sunday and met a neighbour outside who lives in a trailer, and he asked me where my dog was,” the post read. The woman could not believe it when one of her neighbors living in a trailer informed her about her dog’s condition while she was away.
Her pet dog had run away from the daycare and was found by two girls travelling in the city. They “found him running loose in a busy street and they were able to lure him to a pet store,” the neighbor informed the owner. Fortunately, the girls did not let their dog go away with any stranger until they were sure. They inquired about the dog everywhere and refused to let him go when a stranger offered to adopt him. “A couple of minutes later, a guy saw him and made a desperate phone call saying, ‘I found him! I found him!’ He explained he was from the daycare and they were looking for the dog, but when he got close, my dog tried to run and peed himself.”
Noting the dog’s reaction, the girls were doubtful about the guy and went to the daycare to take photos of the dog going inside for proof. When the girls showed everyone the photos back at the trailer park, the neighbor recognized the dog and said he knew the owner. The dog owner was unnerved by what had been going on without her notice. She immediately picked up her dog, while the daycare never mentioned the happenings. “I’m pretty sure someone there hurt him because now he’s either afraid or avoidant of men, and he wasn’t like that before,” the woman said. Unfortunately, her pup has not been able to recover even after all these years.
