Family called cops to investigate a missing Amazon package — but nothing prepared them for the unlikely culprit caught on camera

The officers told residents that the victim was fine but confused, and that the thief was still out there enjoying his loot.

A family reached out to local authorities after noticing that an Amazon package had vanished from their porch. They hoped the police could help them understand what happened last week, since the delivery alert showed the item had already arrived. The family thought it might be a typical case of a missing parcel. What followed turned a simple report into a light-hearted moment no one saw coming.

As reported by Koco News on Monday, November 17, 2025, officers from the Choctaw Police Department arrived and viewed the family’s Nest camera footage for evidence. But instead of finding a person stealing the package, the video revealed a naughty dog trotting up to the porch and grabbing the box sitting beside a decorative skeleton. Police later joked in a Facebook post, “This four-legged bandit took it upon himself to snatch the goods right off the porch,” adding that there was “No getaway car, no accomplice, just one determined dog living his best life.” A second dog appeared in the background, running in the same direction, though the lead “suspect” acted entirely on his own.

The department shared in the post that the family had come home expecting their delivery, only to find it missing. Their post read, “Package Thief Caught Red-Pawed,” and described how the officers quickly solved the case after watching the footage. They assured residents that the “victim is okay, just a little confused,” while the dog remained at large, likely enjoying whatever he found. The light-hearted incident brought laughs to the community and reminded people that not all "porch pirates" are human. The post also attracted a lot of attention in the comment section. Janet Smith wrote, "He just wanted his treat." Candi Boone expressed, "Absolutely precious!" While Karen Strecker Lemmon tried guessing, "Must have been something good to eat in there."

Pets often make the cutest little kleptomaniacs, just like in another incident where a feline decided to reveal his mischievous side by stealing clothes. Leonardo da Pinchy, a 15-month-old cat from Mairangi Bay in Auckland, New Zealand, became famous for his habit of taking items that did not belong to him. His owner, Helen North, explained that he had brought home far more than simple socks, often choosing expensive clothing, including a cashmere sweater worth about $181.

As the pile of stolen items grew, she began asking neighbors if anything belonged to them and posted photos online to return what Leo had taken. His most surprising theft had been a five-foot stuffed snake, which only added to his growing reputation. Instead of frustration, the neighbors found him entertaining, with some wishing he had stolen from them, too. North tried keeping him indoors and even offered him household items to distract him, but nothing worked because, as she said, “He only wants stuff that he shouldn’t have.”
