Family thought kind neighbors just loved walking their dog — then one note exposed their disturbing plan all along

Sometimes, even the most ordinary neighborly gestures can lead to unexpected situations. That’s what happened to Meg, also known as @megmegmegitsmeg on TikTok, who shared her story in 2023 about something that took place years earlier in 2016. At the time, Meg lived in Holland with her dad while her sister studied in England. One day, new neighbors moved in across the street, a friendly-looking family with a daughter and a dog. Soon after settling in, the mother and daughter knocked on Meg’s door and kindly asked if they could take her German Shepherd, Marley, for a walk. Meg and her dad appreciated the offer and agreed, thinking it was just a kind neighborly gesture. But the chain of events that followed left everyone frustrated and shocked.

In her viral video, Meg narrated how her neighbors tried to steal her dog. After the first walk, the neighbors began coming back every day to take Marley out, even though Meg and her dad had already walked her multiple times a day. “They walked Marley, she came back, she was super happy, and my dad offered to give them some money, and they declined, but very rudely,” Meg explained. Over time, it became clear they weren’t just trying to help. When Meg was home alone, often while her dad was away on business, she stopped answering the door after evening walks. But the neighbors didn’t leave. Instead, they started calling out through the letterbox and feeding Marley treats through it. “As a sixteen-year-old, this did not make me feel safe,” she said. “It was a bit creepy.” They would show up minutes after she returned from school, making her feel watched.

The situation escalated when the neighbors told Meg’s visiting grandparents that Marley wasn’t being walked enough. Later, they slipped a letter through the door, saying they understood Meg’s family had a “busy life.” They even offered to introduce one of their friends who loves Marley and help them “find another home” for their pet. “They organized a whole meet and greet with my dog,” Meg said, still shocked by how far things had gone. Meg later shared in another video that what made it even stranger was when the neighbors went on vacation, they didn’t stop the visits; instead, they sent friends mentioned in the letter to walk Marley.

That’s when Meg’s sister came home to visit, and they decided enough was enough. When the strangers knocked again, Meg’s sister opened the door, ready to confront the neighbors. But to her surprise, the people at the door weren't the neighbors but the "friends" mentioned in the letter. “She goes like, ‘Okay, guys, I don’t know what’s going on with this letter. We walk our dog enough. We love her,’” Meg recalled. One of the women even tried to walk into the house, but her sister blocked the doorway. “No, I don’t want you in my house,” she said. When the strangers claimed the dog wasn’t being walked enough, Meg’s sister replied, “How would you know? You don’t even live across the street.” That was the final moment of the strange series of events. “Obviously, she did not walk our dog that day, and they never walked her again,” Meg concluded.
