Goldendoodle swallowed $4,000 in cash from kitchen table — and its owner recovered most of it in the grossest way you can imagine

The $4,000 had originally been stashed in the locker to fund a fence installation project, but instead, it became an expensive dog snack.

A dog left his owners digging for dirty money after he gobbled up $4,000 from the kitchen counter. Cecil, a Goldendoodle, was usually a good boy until one day he caused trouble. Carrie and Clayton Law, from Pennsylvania, had set aside a stack of cash for home renovations, only to realize their dog had chewed up more than half of it. To recover the money, the couple faced an unexpected and unpleasant challenge.

The Laws were in disbelief when they found chewed-up cash around their house. “Suddenly, Clayton yelled to me, 'Cecil's eating $4,000!' I thought, 'I cannot be hearing that.' I almost had a heart attack,” Carrie told Pittsburgh City Paper. Their seven-year-old pup had swallowed a bunch of $50 and $100 bills in the owners’ Pittsburgh home. The couple was unaware of their dog's antics until Clayton caught sight of the torn bills and alerted Carrie. She told the outlet that Cecil had “never touched anything in his life.” Collecting the cash lying around the house, the Laws could initially recover $1,500 out of the entire sum, the Washington Post reported.

They consulted the bank manager, who said the bank would accept taped-together bills with visible serial numbers for reimbursement. Hope was restored in the Laws as they got to the dirty work. They recovered some of the money from Cecil’s vomit and a few more from his poop. The poor couple had to collect bags of poop from the garden and wash them out in their utility sink. Then came the tedious task of piecing together every tiny bit of cash like a puzzle. "There we are at the utility sink, washing this shitty money, yelling 'Yay! Yes! We got one!' It smelled so bad," Carrie recalled.

Fortunately, the Laws recovered $3,550, incurring a minor loss of $450. They plan to create a piece of artwork from the leftover shreds of cash that could not make it to the bank. The $4,000 had originally been stashed in the locker to fund a fence installation project, but instead became an expensive dog snack. Simultaneously, as responsible dog owners, the Laws consulted with a veterinarian to know whether Cecil needed to be examined with a stack of cash in his belly. The vet reassured them that their pup would be well and fine with at-home monitoring, considering his bigger size.

On her Instagram page, @ooolalaw, Carrie shared a viral snippet narrating their disgusting endeavor. She shared pictures of the expensive mess Cecil had caused and how they recovered most of the bills with sheer hard work and determination. PetMd reports that dogs will often consume non-food items out of boredom or a psychological condition called Pica, an obsessive-compulsive habit that indicates poor nutrition or a medical condition. This behavior can result in toxicity, choking, or stomach upset.
