He ignored complaints about his dog barking from midnight till 3 a.m. — until his neighbor’s 6 a.m. revenge gave him a taste of his own medicine

A dog owner paid no heed to his neighbor’s complaints about his dog barking from midnight to 3 a.m. They endured several nights of torment as the dog’s barks echoed through the neighborhood and ruined their sleep. Nothing seemed to work because the owner simply shrugged it off as someone else’s problem. When things got out of hand, the neighbor decided it was time to give him a taste of his own medicine and put a brilliant plan into execution.

The neighbor shared a now-deleted Reddit post in May 2025, under the username u/SaladUnlucky10, revealing their hilarious revenge plan, intended to teach the careless owner a lesson. “My neighbor's dog ruined my sleep, so I used it to ruin his," teased the post with 24,000 votes. The Reddit user explained that the incessant barking had been testing their patience for days. The dog owner would leave the barking dog outside their home all night without a care about the nuisance it caused to everyone. “Deep, loud echoing barks like he was announcing the end of the world,” they wrote, as reported by Newsweek.

It was clearly an issue to be dealt with immediately. When the neighbor asked him twice to bring his dog inside his home, he refused. More so, his unexpected reaction left the neighbor stunned by his indifference. “Both times, he brushed it off with a smirk and said, 'He's just doing his job.' Cool. Then I'll do mine.” The next day, the neighbor set up a speaker pointing at the dog owner’s wall and blasted a recording of the barking dog in full volume at 6 a.m. However, the first attempt was somewhat successful, if not completely. For the next two mornings, the annoyed neighbor kept playing the recording on a loop, and it seemed to work.

"I repeated that for two mornings. No yelling. No threats. Just his own dog giving him a taste of what I'd been dealing with,” the post added. Suddenly, the neighborhood fell silent one night. On day three, the plan paid off. “The dog was inside before 10 p.m. Hasn't barked at night since. Sometimes the best revenge is pressing play,” they rejoiced. The post was acknowledged by several supporters chiming in myriad of insights. “Wonderfully petty—and effective—love it!” wrote u/Careful-Blacksmith-8 and u/Sufficient_Equal_334 recalled, “I had that problem, so I’d put my speaker outside on my wall and played ‘we built this city on rock and roll’ on repeat for three hours.” Meanwhile, u/delulu4drama joked, "No sleep for me? No sleep for you."

There are several reasons why a dog may bark nonstop at nothing. A good bet is that they sense something in their environment, like hearing high-pitched sounds, spotting a moving creature in the dark, or sniffing out an unusual smell, per the American Kennel Club. The nonstop barking may also be caused due to separation or anxiety-related problems. It is essential to teach dogs a quiet cue like “Hush” or “Stop” to let them know it’s time to stop barking.
