Poodles separated at 12 weeks, reunite as adults ─ now they're chasing a lost childhood

A heart-melting moment went viral on TikTok when a dog finally met her sibling after years. The adorable news came forward when 29-year-old Kira, going by the handle @dus_poodle, shared a video of her dog reuniting with her sister. As reported by Newsweek, in May 2024, Kira became a proud dog mom after bringing home her 12-week-old miniature poodle, Nala.

Upon a visit to the breeder, Kira and her boyfriend noticed Nala’s three sisters in the litter. Kira stayed in touch with the breeder in hopes of finding another cute pup for her parents, who, unfortunately, had to bid farewell to their last pet in 2023. "In the past year, my parents looked after Nala when I was busy and they were always so excited when she came to visit.” She further stated, "They loved her friendly nature, and they were interested in getting a puppy from the same breeder.” Deeply attached to Nala, Kira hoped her parents would get a dog just like her.
Who knew some exciting news was already on its way?
In April, the breeder informed Kira that one of Nala’s sisters needed a new loving home as the previous owners couldn’t look after her anymore. “As the breeder knew my parents were interested in getting a new dog, he asked if they could see themselves adopting an adult dog rather than a puppy,” Kira said. Her parents immediately got interested and went to see Nala’s sister, and the obvious happened ─ they loved the dog and couldn’t wait to bring her home. Later on, Kira and Nala were both waiting in the park for the dogs to reunite after a long separation. Having been adopted at 12 weeks old, the siblings had lost out on the chance to grow up together — something they could rectify now. "We wanted Nala to be the first thing she saw in her new environment," Kira said. "We hoped that with her sister being there, she would feel more at home. After meeting in the park, we went to my parents' house so she could become acquainted with her new home.”
Kira was initially a little nervous about the siblings meeting each other after being separated as puppies; the doubt of them not getting along seeped in as well. However, the tension immediately evaporated once the dogs got together; it was obvious that they were "super happy to see each other," Kira said. Recent studies have also shared the positive impact of dogs having the company of other canine companions, be it their sibling or another breed. A report by the National Library of Medicine stated that pair-housing or dogs being kenneled together can improve their dog-dog social skills and reduce aggression.
The excitement of the siblings meeting after so long can be seen in the video itself, as neither could stop wagging their tails or jumping on one another. The absolute bliss of seeing them together, chasing each other, simply running around, is something that struck a chord in every viewer’s heart. No one could keep their calm, and the video instantly became a hit on social media, garnering more than 282,300 views and 20,000 likes in a matter of days.

Everyone came to the comment section to leave their positive reactions. One user named @thewifeofatwitchstreamer states, “Oh thank you for reuniting them”, while another user, @luffythepom shared, “what a beautiful story!” @victor.san.ru, just like us, couldn't get enough and commented, "One hour video, please?" Another user, @engaging_foodie, shared her personal experience, stating, "My girl met her brother at 4 months and they definitely knew and remembered each other. So cute." As shared by Newsweek, Kira expressed her gratitude and surprise at the video going viral. She stated, "The comments on the video were very positive, and it's been great reading them all. I also loved reading about other people's experiences with reuniting their dogs with their siblings too."
