Stray dog refused to stop running after tourist’s cab until they stopped — 7 months later, his rescuer flew 3000 miles to bring him home

A woman was out exploring the streets of Bolivia when a street dog suddenly began chasing her cab for several blocks. Little did she know, the pup was a blessing in disguise. Krista had been traveling for the past two years, all on her own, but that was soon going to change as she stopped her cab to befriend the dog. That was the start of a lifelong friendship as Krista braved stern international regulations, tedious import logistics, and a grinding process to adopt the pup who just wouldn’t stop following her, even across the world, as reported by The Dodo (@TheDodo).

“He didn’t stop following us. He’s dodging in and out of traffic,” Krista said, recounting the moment she noticed the pup chasing her cab. Stunned by the dog’s persistence, she requested the driver to stop. Krista and her friends were in Bolivia but were set to leave within a few weeks. So, Krista found herself in a pickle with the dog following her everywhere she went. “We were like, ‘Okay, we don’t know what we’re going to do long-term, but we can make it work.’” The video included heartwarming glimpses of the furry pal patiently waiting and sticking by Krista’s side.

Soon, the dog was traveling with them across cities without causing a fuss. “From the beginning, I grew this deep bond with him,” she expressed. However, it was finally time to part ways, as taking the pup back home with her was more complicated than expected. The pawed pal who had suddenly enriched Krista’s Bolivian experience with his unconditional love deserved a happy life. She found a street dog rescue facility for the pup in Bolivia and left him under the care of a foster family. Krista made a promise to return to take the dog home in the U.S.

"Unfortunately, it’s not the easiest process to import a dog from Bolivia. There’s a lot of paperwork and bloodwork that needs to be sent out and processed,” Krista explained. She flew back to the U.S., waiting for the technicalities to be over, and returned, as promised, after seven months to bring Chase home. The pup was overjoyed to see Krista, while the latter had her fingers crossed for their new life together. “When I saw Chase again, it was amazing. He remembered who I was. We were so happy!” After a long and tedious process, the duo finally reunited in Miami and drove all the way to Tennessee. Chase settled in well and never stopped chasing his favorite human, even across national borders.

Noticing his love for travel, Krista bought a camper van and kicked off the adventure of a lifetime with her pet dog. She drove across the country, from Tennessee to Oklahoma, New Mexico, in her home on wheels. “I could be traveling to the farthest corner of the planet, but I have my best friend by my side,” Krista shared.
