Tiny bird refuses to leave the UPS driver during a delivery – he then calls work and drives off with his new companion

It was a busy day at work for a UPS driver, but life had other plans in store. The man was delivering a package to a customer when a bright little bird landed on his shoulder from nowhere. TikTok user @blackise999 shared a viral clip that captured the extraordinary encounter as it unfolded. The driver waited for the bird to leave and fly away while nearby people tried to feed it. The feathered visitor seemed to have chosen its human and stayed perched on his shoulder. Viewers were touched by the scene and left heartfelt comments about the "bird distribution system."

Realizing his feathery situation was delaying deliveries, the UPS driver called work to report the culprit. “I’m trying to finish work, and it just kind of flew up out of nowhere, plopped on my shoulder, won’t leave,” he informed someone over the phone. A customer supported him from the side as he tried to feed the bird and get it off the driver’s shoulder. “He’s not lying, I’m a customer. I’m feeding the bird. I’m trying to get it so he can get back to work, but he bit me,” the customer quipped. When the driver’s co-worker asked if the bird was wild, it chirped loudly. It was a lovebird, and the man figured someone probably owned it before it flew away. Hence, the attachment to humans.
Unsuccessful in getting the bird off, the UPS driver ended up driving away with it still perched on his shoulder. The video closed with the driver fastening his seat belt, the bird still hitching a ride on his shoulder. The post amassed 2.9 million views and 371,000 likes. Several viewers asked for an update on his journey with the bird, while others were charmed by the magical encounter. @allydenison said, “You’re a Disney prince. Enjoy your new bird.” “It is already your animal spirit. He needs you. You are very special to have been picked,” penned @deanabarber8, while @geeyourhairsmellsnice joked, “He said, ‘Let’s go to work, dad’.”

“Where exactly do I need to stand to receive a bird from the bird distribution system?” asked @dog_gone_crazy_texas. A fellow viewer, @rachaeleshnaurdre, explained, “That’s a peach-faced lovebird. He definitely had a home. You’ve been chosen!” According to a report by MSPCA-Angell, lovebirds are small, stocky parrots with an average lifespan of 10 to 12 years. They make adorable pets and remain active, playful, curious, and have different personalities.
Lovebirds form deep social relationships with their owners and enjoy cuddling, as per the Westfield Veterinary Hospital. However, they are prone to nipping, exhibiting territorial aggressiveness, and jealousy. Females are generally more jealous and territorial than males. These birds come in pairs and can barely survive alone, per Bird Sitting Toronto. They are monogamous in nature and mate for life to raise young ones and protect one another from predators.
