Wife had enough after husband refused to help find their son’s lost dog — so she tossed his Xbox out of the window

Taking care of pets is no child’s play. A woman, who posted on Reddit under u/pleaseiwanttobreath, claimed her gaming-addict husband’s irresponsibility forced her to take an extreme step. She returned home from work and tossed his Xbox into the trash after finding out what he had done moments after their dog escaped.  

The then 35-year-old woman explained that her days were busy as a nurse, with barely any free time at home. On the other hand, her husband worked from home at a law firm and his workdays were less hectic than hers. After working for about three to four hours, he would spend all his time gaming on his Xbox. “I have been extremely busy these past three months,” she hinted in the post with 17,000 votes. The wife revealed that she also gave birth to their daughter just six months ago while taking care of her elder son.  

A few years ago, when her son asked for a puppy, her husband agreed, thinking it would teach their then 8-year-old some responsibility and also help with his baby sibling. “I protested against that because I had just found out that I was pregnant,” the Reddit user wrote. Eventually, the family got a new puppy after the husband promised to help their son take care of the dog, Tippy. Then, the expected happened. “Five days ago, my son had accidentally left the back door of our house open and the dog ran away. These five days were also some of the busiest, most grueling days of my work and I had to take up night shifts because a colleague had fallen sick,” the post shared.  

The son ran to his father for help, but the latter refused, saying it was not his responsibility to care for the pup. Instead, he told the kid to “do something about it himself.” Despite having the free time and resources to help his son, the father decided against it. Later, when the wife found out, she confronted the husband, but his response was the same. “I talked to my husband, who said that it would teach our son some responsibility to take care of things in the future, which I found very callous since a dog is a living, sentient being and not a ‘thing.’” The man ignored her concerns and went back to gaming. The next day, the wife returned home and trashed his Xbox because he was “addicted” to it.  

Chaos ensued. Her husband searched for his favorite thing in the world until his wife told him she had thrown it away because he didn’t help their son find their missing dog. “When I came back from work, he told me he had found his Xbox in the trash since the garbage truck hadn't arrived then,” she said. Left with no choice, the wife searched for Tippy, posting pictures online and calling shelters. In an update, the owner informed that Tippy was found, but with no help from her husband.
