A woman let her dog out for a morning walk as part of her usual routine, but soon regretted it after making a spine-chilling discovery. Dog owner, Cheri Blair, was going about her day when she spotted her dog with a strange bone left out for her by a neighbor. Looking closer, she found a note complaining about her dog’s barking that revealed their sinister plan to solve the problem once and for all. Moments later, the owner and her husband were rushing the pup to the emergency room in an animal hospital.

Blair from Australia was shocked to the core after she uncovered a big piece of poisoned bone in the yard. The dog named Jolene had not returned after the walk, which raised suspicion in the owner’s mind. The then 66-year-old woman went out to look for her and located her next to the bone, casually lying on the ground. "I went down there and it was one of those ones that you have to go to a pet store to get, like a freeze-dried bone, quite big,” Blair told The Sun.  She only realized the severity of the situation after reading the letter, which revealed a neighbor had reportedly tried to kill her then 7-month-old Portuguese Podengo because of her non-stop barking.

She found a sealed envelope alongside the bone that contained a poorly spelled message about Jolene. "Your dog is to be poisoned, to much barking, sorry but not choice, your falt,” the note read. It was only a matter of time before Blair began freaking out and called out to her husband. “I started screaming at my husband, ‘Go get the bone.’ They couldn't even spell, it was horrible,” she said. Though the letter claimed the bone was poisoned, the couple could not confirm it. It was unnerving, nonetheless. “I mean, it’s obviously quite threatening,” she admitted.

They took the dog to the hospital to ensure that she was not harmed by the inhumane attempt. Blair’s pup was reported to be safe and did not sustain any health complications. The local police were informed and attended the scene to investigate the case, per 7News. The owner tried to recall which of her neighbors could possibly pull such a thing and remembered a woman yelling, “Shut up!” the other day when Jolene barked for 20 minutes straight, per the source. She suspected that the woman could be the culprit, while two other neighbors claimed they never heard the dog bark.

According to the Criminal Defense Lawyers Australia, it is against the law to poison or even attempt to poison a domestic animal. Any breach of the law could lead to a maximum penalty of a fine of $110,000 for a corporation and $22,000 for an individual. Blair was upset and terrified to let her dog out again following the incident.
